Job summary

Norton Healthcare in Kentucky is seeking a Respiratory Care Practitioner who will report on time and provide quality care as ordered by physicians. You will initiate respiratory protocols, assess care plans, and assist with discharge planning while coordinating with the patient care team.

Requirements include an Associate Degree, license (CRT or RRT) within 6 months of hire, and eligibility to practice as a Respiratory Therapist in Kentucky.

Qualifications

• Associate Degree in Respiratory Care.
• CRT or RRT must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
• Respiratory Therapist license in KY.

Responsibilities

• Provide quality respiratory care as ordered by physicians.
• Initiate respiratory protocols and evaluate protocol steps.
• Assess and develop care plans with the patient care team.
• Assist with discharge planning as needed.
• Educate patients and families on therapies and medications.
• Document activities and support billing and supply management.
• Participate in quality monitoring and training.

Responsibilities

The Respiratory Care Practitioner will report to work on time and ready to work in a quiet professional manner, following hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Provide quality care as ordered by the patient's physicians. Responsible for the initiation of respiratory protocols and/or the evaluation of protocol steps that include all modalities of therapy. Serves as a member of the patient care team to assess, develop care plans, evaluate appropriateness of respiratory care modalities, and assist with discharge planning as needed. Provide patient and family education related to medications and therapy modalities appropriate to assessed learning skills. Participate in monitoring quality of care. Organizes workflow to maintain smooth transition between shifts. Assist in the day to day operations of the respiratory care services by neat and accurate documentation, entering charges for patient billing, monitoring and ordering supplies and medications, and other duties as assigned. Maintains current knowledge via hospital and department communication tools. Identifies problems and recommends ideas and solutions. Demonstrates critical thinking skills. Participates/Provides in-service training.
