Job summary

Norton Healthcare is seeking a Respiratory Care Practitioner to join our hospital team. You will report on time, provide care as ordered by physicians, and participate in planning and evaluating patient respiratory therapies.

You will educate patients and families, monitor care quality, and assist with discharge planning as needed. In addition to clinical duties, you will maintain accurate documentation, manage billing entries, and help with supply orders.

Qualifications

• Associate degree required.
• CRT or RRT certification, RRT must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
• KY Respiratory Therapist licensure required.
• Desirable: 1 year of experience in a critical care setting.
• Desirable: National Certification (CRT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).

Responsibilities

• Report to work on time and follow hospital and department policies.
• Provide quality care as ordered by patient physicians.
• Initiate respiratory protocols and evaluate protocol steps for all modalities of therapy.
• Assess, develop care plans, evaluate appropriateness of modalities, assist with discharge planning.
• Educate patients and families about medications and therapy modalities.
• Monitor quality of care and participate in in-service training.
• Maintain neat documentation, enter charges, monitor supplies and medications.

Responsibilities

The Respiratory Care Practitioner will report to work on time and ready to work in a quiet professional manner, following hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Provide quality care as ordered by the patient's physicians. Responsible for the initiation of respiratory protocols and/or the evaluation of protocol steps that include all modalities of therapy. Serves as a member of the patient care team to assess, develop care plans, evaluate appropriateness of respiratory care modalities, and assist with discharge planning as needed. Provide patient and family education related to medications and therapy modalities appropriate to assessed learning skills. Participate in monitoring quality of care. Organizes workflow to maintain smooth transition between shifts. Assist in the day to day operations of the respiratory care services by neat and accurate documentation, entering charges for patient billing, monitoring and ordering supplies and medications, and other duties as assigned. Maintains current knowledge via hospital and department communication tools. Identifies problems and recommends ideas and solutions. Demonstrates critical thinking skills. Participates/Provides in-service training.
