Job summary

Carson Tahoe Health in Carson City, NV is seeking a per diem Respiratory Care Practitioner to provide therapeutic and diagnostic respiratory services under physician direction.

Qualifications

• Active Respiratory Care Practitioner license issued by the Nevada Board of Medical Examiners.
• NBRC RRT or CRT credential with RRT eligibility; NBRC license current for credentials after 2002.
• AHA BLS for healthcare providers required at hire.
• AHA PALS within 90 days of hire.
• AHA ACLS within 90 days of hire.
• NRP certification within 90 days of hire.
• Blood Gas Technologist license or Nevada Supervisor of a Licensed Laboratory qualification within 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Carries out physician/PA orders related to respiratory care.
• Provides therapeutic and diagnostic services including gas delivery and airway maintenance.
• Administers respiratory therapy treatments per policies and procedures.
• Uses airway management techniques in emergent and non-emergent situations.
• Provides bronchial hygiene therapies and rehabilitation procedures.
• Maintains non-invasive ventilators and appropriate mask fits.
• Performs tests to monitor diagnosis and treatment, including blood gas analysis.
• Monitors patient responses and documents pertinent data.
• Responds to emergencies up to code blue.
• Communicates with physician about status and alternatives.
• Participates in quality improvement projects as requested by Manager.
• Assists during bronchoscopy and conscious sedation.

Summary

Provides respiratory care including therapeutic treatments, management, diagnostic testing, control and care of persons with deficiency and abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system under the direction of a physician and/or by prescription. May serve in a relief Lead capacity.

Qualifications

Required

• Active Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license issued by the Nevada Board of Medical Examiners.
• National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential with RRT eligibility acceptable. Current and Maintained NBRC license is required for all credentials obtained after 2002.
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare provider’s certification upon hire or position entry.
• American Heart Association (AHA) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) for healthcare providerswithin ninety (90) days of hire or position entry.
• American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiovascular Life Life Support (ACLS) for healthcare providerswithin ninety (90) days of hire or position entry.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification within ninety (90) days of hire or position entry.
• Blood Gas Technologist license issued by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) of Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health (DPBH) within ninety (90) days of hire or position entry or Holds a Nevada State General Supervisor of a Licensed Laboratory, which supersedes the Blood Gas Technologist license upon hire.

Preferred

(1) One-year of Acute Care hospital experience.

National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) Adult Critical Care Specialist (ACCS) credential.

National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) Neonatal/Pediatric Specialist (NPS) credential.

Essential Functions

• Carries out the orders of physician or physician assistant relating to respiratory care.
• Provides therapeutic and diagnostic services including medical gas delivery i.e. oxygen therapy, humidity, and aerosols along with the maintenance of these apparatus.
• Administers respiratory therapy treatments including medication, hyperinflation therapy, small volume nebulizers, chest physical therapy, incentive spirometry, and sputum inductions, in accordance with established policies and procedures.
• Utilizes and provides airway management techniques in emergent and non-emergent situations that insure safe and effective patient care practices.
• Provides bronchial hygiene therapies, breathing exercises and other respiratory rehabilitation procedures.
• Initiates, monitors, troubleshoots and maintains non-invasive mechanical ventilators including appropriate mask fits and ventilator settings for safe and effective patient care practices.
• Utilizes techniques for testing to assist in diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment including the measurement of ventilator volumes, pressures and flows, collection of blood and other specimens, blood gas analysis,testing of pulmonary functions, hemodynamic and other related physiological monitory of the cardiopulmonary system.
• Monitors patient's physiological responses to therapy and utilize documentation standards to communicate all pertinent data and therapy information.
• Responds to all emergency situations up to including code blue.
• Consults with physician regarding adverse reactions, patient status and alternatives to care.
• Participate in departmental quality improvement projects such as patient chart reviews as requested by Manager.
• Assist the physician during bronchoscopy and conscious sedation procedures.
• May assist during C-sections or any high-risk delivery.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
