Job Description - RT - Respiratory Care Practitioner Level II - Nights (240002Y1)

Position Summary:

Under general supervision of the department manager, the Respiratory Care Practitioner, RCP-II, is responsible for administering all levels of Respiratory Care to patients with cardiopulmonary dysfunction and/or disabilities. The RCP-II functions at a level appropriate for Acute Care, ER, and Critical Care (PICU or NICU) and maintains skills to provide safe, effective care to patients of all ages, including neonates, infants, children, adolescents, and adults.

Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree from an AMA-approved Respiratory Care Program (Required)
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience (Required)
  • At least 1 year in a critical care environment (pediatric or adult) (Required)

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Active member of the American Association of Respiratory Care
  • Competency in all aspects of acute care, ER, and ICU delivery within 90 days
  • Proficiency in respiratory procedures, including humidity, aerosol therapy, lung maneuvers, pulmonary secretion clearance, CPAP, BIPAP, and High-Flow Therapy
  • Intermediate skills in mechanical ventilation management, including Nitric Oxide, Heliox, and HFOV
  • CPR performance as needed
  • Ability to perform invasive and non-invasive monitoring and diagnostics
  • Independent work in ER, Acute Care, and PICU/NICU with at least 10 shifts per area annually
  • Adherence to departmental policies and procedures
  • Effective communication skills, organizational abilities, clinical judgment, and compassion
  • Mathematical calculation skills
  • Maintaining licensure and continuing education credits such as BLS, PALS, and others
  • Physical ability to perform treatments, lift up to 50 lbs, and stand/walk long periods
  • Basic computer skills

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • Registered Respiratory Therapist
  • RCP License from DC DOH
  • BLS for Healthcare Providers
  • PALS

Additional Information:

Employee will perform patient care procedures, ensure thorough documentation, attend departmental meetings, and seek process improvements. The primary location is CN Hospital, Washington, DC.
