Qualifications

• Licensed RCP by California
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential
• Competent in four PIH Health areas (ICU/ED, PFT, Anesthesia Assistant, Hyperbaric, Bronchoscopy Assistant, Shift Lead, Pulmonary Navigator, New Employee/Student Preceptor)
• NBRC credentials: CPFT/RPFT/NPS/ACCS
• 12 years’ PIH experience or BS in allied health
• Quality Improvement project or education activity presented at dept meeting
• Maintain ACLS, BCLS and PALS certifications
• Must have and maintain LA County Fire Card (6 months to obtain if not present)
• NRP may be required at certain locations

Respiratory Care Practitioner III, Adult, Full Time, Day Shift

Responsible and accountable for the respiratory management, treatment, control and care of patients with respiratory deficiencies. Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients. The individual must exhibit knowledge of the principles of growth and development from newborn to geriatric patient population. RCP must possess the ability to assess data reflective of patient status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs. RCP must be able to provide the care indicated with respect to department policy and procedures. With consideration to age, employee utilizes the approved process to resolve biophysical, psychological educational, and environmental needs of the patient/significant other when administering care.

Required Skills

• Able to work in 4 of the areas as spelled out under Education/Experience/Training below within PIH Health Hospitals.
• Be able to exhibit skills to accomplish computer operation to include mouse and windows application.
• Must be adept at auscultation of the chest and physical assessment of the patient and monitoring of vital signs.
• Exhibit skills and ability to properly understand and operate electronic monitoring devices.
• Demonstrate good communication skills, verbal and written.
• Willing and able to accept the responsibility of the position.

Required Experience

• Licensed RCP by State of California.
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential.
• Competent in 4 of the following areas within PIH. Some will not be relevant at all campuses. Intensive Care Unit/Emergency Department, Pulmonary Function Laboratory, Anesthesia Assistant, Hyperbaric Department, Bronchoscopy A ssist, Shift Lead, Pulmonary Navigator, New Employee/Student Preceptor.
• One of the following NBRC Credentials is required: Certified / Registered Pulmonary Function Technician (CPFT, RPFT), Neonatal/Pediatric Specialist (NPS), Adult Critical Care Specialist (ACCS)
• 12 years’ experience within PIH or Bachelor of Science in allied health field.
• Come up with a Quality Improvement project (approved by management) or Education Activity (i.e. lecture, module, article review) and present it at a department meeting.
• Maintain Adult ACLS, BCLS and Pediatric (PALS) certification required.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Los Angeles County Fire Card. If not present at hire, the employee will have 6 months to obtain
• Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) may be required at certain locations.
