Job description

Job Description: Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP)

The Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) is responsible and accountable for the respiratory management, treatment, control, and care of patients with respiratory deficiencies. The RCP must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care, with understanding of growth and development from newborn to geriatric patients. They must assess patient data, interpret information, and identify patient needs based on age-specific requirements, adhering to department policies and procedures. The RCP considers biophysical, psychological, educational, and environmental needs when administering care.

Qualifications and Skills
  • Ability to work in at least three of the following areas within PIH Health Hospitals: ICU, Emergency Department, Pulmonary Function Laboratory, Anesthesia Assistance, Hyperbaric Department, Bronchoscopy Assistance, Shift Leadership, Pulmonary Navigation, or as a Preceptor for new employees/students.
  • Proficiency in computer operation, including mouse and Windows applications.
  • Skill in auscultation, physical assessment, and vital sign monitoring.
  • Ability to operate electronic monitoring devices effectively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to accept responsibility and demonstrate professionalism.
Minimum Requirements
  • California State License as an RCP.
  • Active Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential.
  • Three to five years of experience preferred within PIH Health.
  • Competency in at least three specialized areas within PIH, which may include ICU, Emergency Department, Pulmonary Function, Anesthesia Assistance, Hyperbaric, Bronchoscopy, Leadership, Pulmonary Navigation, or Preceptorship.
  • Current certifications in Adult ACLS, BCLS, and PALS; if not available at hire, must be obtained within six months.
  • Valid Los Angeles County Fire Card; if not available at hire, must be obtained within six months.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification may be required at certain locations.
