Job Description: Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP)

The Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) is responsible and accountable for the respiratory management, treatment, control, and care of patients with respiratory deficiencies. The RCP must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care, exhibiting understanding of growth and development principles from newborn to geriatric patients. The individual should be capable of assessing patient data, interpreting information to identify patient needs based on age-specific requirements, and providing care according to department policies and procedures. When administering care, the employee considers biophysical, psychological, educational, and environmental needs of the patient or significant other.

Qualifications and Skills
  • Ability to work in at least three of the specified areas within PIH Health Hospitals, as outlined under Education/Experience/Training.
  • Proficiency in computer operation, including mouse and Windows applications.
  • Skill in auscultation of the chest, physical assessment, and monitoring vital signs.
  • Ability to operate electronic monitoring devices effectively.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness and ability to accept responsibility for the position.
Minimum Requirements
  • Licensed RCP by the State of California.
  • Active Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential.
  • Three to five years of experience preferred within PIH.
  • Competency in at least three areas within PIH, such as ICU, Emergency Department, Pulmonary Function Laboratory, among others.
  • Current certifications in Adult ACLS, BCLS, and Pediatric PALS; if not present at hire, to be obtained within six months.
  • Valid Los Angeles County Fire Card; if not available at hire, to be obtained within six months.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) may be required at certain locations.
