Respiratory Care Practitioner II, 10K Sign on Bonus

• Position Type: Non-Exempt

UMMC Midtown Campus, part of the University of Maryland Medical Center, is a trusted teaching hospital in Baltimore City, focusing on managing chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, pulmonary conditions, and infectious diseases.

Main Function:

A Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) provides treatment, management, diagnostic evaluation, and care of patients with pulmonary system deficiencies under medical direction. Responsibilities include patient assessment, administering respiratory therapies, equipment maintenance, patient education, and participating in multidisciplinary care planning.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Assess patients through interviews, physical exams, and review of medical records.
2. Develop and discuss treatment plans with physicians based on assessments.
3. Administer respiratory therapies such as oxygen therapy, medications, aerosol treatments, and mechanical ventilation.
4. Educate patients and families about respiratory care and medications.
5. Participate in quality improvement, follow safety and compliance policies.
6. Maintain and set up respiratory equipment, including ventilators and blood gas analyzers.
7. Assist in patient weaning from mechanical ventilation and participate in CPR.
8. Supervise other respiratory therapy staff as needed.
9. Maintain CPR certification and other relevant credentials.
10. Identify and address issues related to respiratory therapy practices.
11. Support the mission and policies of the UMMC Midtown Campus.
12. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

• Associate degree required; Bachelor’s preferred.
• Registered Respiratory Therapist certification required.
• Maryland licensure as a Respiratory Care practitioner required.
• CPR certification required; ACLS preferred.
• Two years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist preferred.
