Job Summary: The Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) provides care to patients with pulmonary deficiencies and abnormalities. Responsibilities include assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating respiratory care, coordinating patient care with physician’s orders and hospital guidelines, and caring for patients from neonates to geriatrics. The RCP actively contributes to department operations and communication, adhering to the mission, vision, and values of Pipeline Health, and following AIDET communication standards.

Essential Functions:

  • Manage artificial airways.
  • Document care, patient condition, and interactions accurately.
  • Conduct respiratory assessments and recommend appropriate interventions.
  • Perform ventilator weaning and monitor results.
  • Notify physicians promptly of significant patient changes.
  • Administer aerosolized medications and monitor oxygen therapy.
  • Perform spirometry and related tests.
  • Deliver IPPB therapy.
  • Operate and maintain respiratory equipment safely.
  • Implement emergency measures during life-threatening situations.
  • Maintain basic cardiology knowledge.
  • Operate and troubleshoot mechanical ventilators, including Bi-Pap and infant ventilators.
  • Draw and interpret arterial blood gases.
  • Manage tracheostomy care.
  • Perform EKGs.
  • Communicate professionally with patients, families, and staff, utilizing AIDET and whiteboards.
  • Collaborate across disciplines for comprehensive patient care.
  • Respond urgently to clinical needs.
  • Maintain departmental organization and report equipment issues.
  • Follow HIPAA regulations and utilize SBAR communication.
  • Participate in training and be flexible to float as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
