  • Two-year Associate's degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Four-year Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • BLS for Healthcare Providers required by CP 1.20 Life Support Course Upon Hire.
  • RRT recognition by NBRC and active Texas license Upon Hire required.
  • NRP (Plano and NICU core) 180 Days required.
  • RRT-NPS recognition by NBRC within 2 years of hire (preferred for CT OR) required.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates competence in professional practice and provides direct patient care including mechanical ventilation, aerosol therapy, pulmonary hygiene, suctioning, oxygen therapy.
  • Documents patient status, response, and interventions clearly.
  • Provides and reinforces health teaching with patients and families.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary treatment teams and acts as a preceptor for novice therapists.
  • Utilizes resources to impact patient care and solve practice problems.
  • Contributes to achieving Respiratory Care Mission and Vision.
  • Adheres to National Patient Safety Goals to provide a safe environment for patients.

Summary

The RCP performs the functions of a respiratory care practitioner in direct care. This position utilizes the respiratory care process in the delivery of developmentally appropriate care and works effectively with members of the health care team, including the family in the provision of care to patients. The incumbent performs the functions of a respiratory care practitioner in direct care and utilizes the respiratory care process in the delivery of developmentally appropriate care. Critical care settings are defined as intensive care units and/or emergency department.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates competence in professional practice:
  • Utilizes established standards of evidence based care to guide practice Provides direct patient care including but not limited to: mechanical ventilation, aerosol therapy, pulmonary hygiene, suctioning, oxygen therapy, inhaled gases Documents patient status, patient response, and respiratory practitioner interventions accurately and clearly Provides and reinforces health teaching with patients and families ▪ Participates in multidisciplinary treatment team ▪ Preceptor for novice therapists
  • Utilizes available resources to impact patient care and solve practice problems
  • Practice contributes toward achieving Respiratory Care Mission and Vision Statement
  • Utilizes the National Patient Safety Goals to provide a safe environment for patients

Work Experience

  • At least 2 years job related experience preferred

EDUCATION

  • Two-year Associate's degree or equivalent experience required
  • Four-year Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers as required by CP 1.20 Life Support Course Requirements Upon Hire required
  • RRT recognized by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) and active Texas license Upon Hire required
  • NRP (Plano and NICU core) 180 Days required
  • RRT-NPS recognized by the NBRC within 2 years of hire (preferred for CT OR) required
