A leading healthcare provider in Gibson City is seeking a Respiratory Care Practitioner to join their Cardiopulmonary Care department. The ideal candidate will be a licensed therapist with recent hospital experience, responsible for patient assessments, providing respiratory therapy, and collaborating with healthcare providers. This full-time position offers flexible scheduling and includes necessary training for specific duties.
JOB TITLE: RESPIRATORY CARE PRACTITIONER
DEPARTMENT: CARDIOPULMONARY CARE
GENERAL SUMMARY
Registered Respiratory Therapist or eligible preferred, licensed in the State of Illinois. 2 years recent hospital experience required; must be comfortable working alone at times. Duties include PFTs, Cardiac Stress Tests, EKGs, Holter monitor & Event monitor placement, (we will train you on the above) ABGs, home oxygen qualifications, ventilator management, routine respiratory care, collaborating with providers regarding all aspects of respiratory therapy. Flexible self-scheduling with rare night and weekend coverage, Free scrubs, Licensure reimbursement. BLS required, ACLS/PALS/NRP required within 6 months of hire.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Collaborates with providers to determine a course of care for assigned patients.
2. Follows guidelines for patient assessments.
3. Demonstrate competency in selected skills and equipment use.
4. Educates patients to their disease process and recommended therapies.
5. Performs accurate documentation in accordance with hospital guidelines.
6. Participates in QI studies when asked.
7. Communicates all pertinent information including findings, problems, concerns or ideas to department director as needed.
8. Promotes a positive atmosphere within the work area by demonstrating the ability to cooperate with and assist fellow health team members, as well as patients and their families.
9. Remains flexible in cooperation with staffing patterns and scheduling needs for provision of care. This includes call scheduling, and performing other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Visual acuity skills for a patient assessment, observation necessary for departmental manual and automated duties.
2. Auditory acuity skills to verbally communicate with patient and gather data for departmental use.
3. Manual dexterity of hands and feet to work long hours and skillfully manage multiple pieces of equipment.
4. Physical strength to perform CPR, occasional lifting whenever help is needed, constant walking, twisting and turning and stretching maneuvers to do patient care and departmental duties.
5. Physical strength to perform the following lifting tasks:
• Floor to waist - 30 pounds
• 14” to waist - 40 pounds
• Waist to shoulder - 20 pounds
• Shoulder to overhead - 10 pounds
• Carry 30 pounds for 30 feet
• Push 40 pounds/force for 30 feet
• Pull 40 pounds/force for 15 feet
6. Keen mental faculties to perform assessment and decision making skills related to patient care and departmental duties.
7. Able to handle stress during long hours associated with acute patient care, emotional demands of patients and families, demands of peers and demands of physicians.
8. Skills needed to give and receive information in person and via telephone.
9. Demonstrates awareness of and sensitivity to patient and family rights as identified by the hospital.
10. Functions with an awareness of and sensitivity to patient and family rights as identified by the hospital.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
Reports to Director of Cardiopulmonary Care.
EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Graduate of accredited program for respiratory care, and/or
- Licensed for State of Illinois Respiratory Care Practitioner.
- BLS required
- ACLS/PALS/NRP within 6 months of hire if hired after January 2018
INFECTION EXPOSURE RISK LEVEL
Category I – Maximal Risk – This job exposes you to potential blood, body fluids and tissues on a routine basis. It is recommended that you get the Hepatitis B vaccine, as well as the Covid-19 vaccine & boosters.
WORKING CONDITIONS
1. Works in patient care areas where there are few discomforts due to dust, dirt, noise and other irritants.
2. Works with patients and may be exposed to contagious diseases or infectious materials, but potential for personal harm and injury is limited when proper safety and health precautions and equipment are used.
3. Works in a normal office where there are relatively few discomforts due to adverse or hazardous working conditions. There is some exposure to noises.
4. Will work in an office with co-workers where traffic may be constant, subjecting your work to interruptions, which can produce stress and fatigue.
