MH: Respiratory Therapy- (Unscheduled, Day) -


Job Summary: The Respiratory Care Practitioner administers diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to assist in the treatment and diagnosis of adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients with cardiopulmonary dysfunction. Provides care in general, critical care, and specialty areas. Possesses advanced skills in assessment and application of respiratory care services for specific age groups and intermediate skills for others. Records treatment and diagnostic information in medical records. Performs additional duties as needed.

Education and Experience: An Associate's Degree from an accredited respiratory therapy program is required. A minimum of one (1) year of clinical experience is preferred.

Knowledge and Skills: Ability to assemble and troubleshoot patient and machine equipment; draw blood; assess patients; perform preventative maintenance; calibrate equipment. Effective communication skills; assertiveness; ability to work calmly under pressure; leadership, supervision, and collaboration skills; ability to follow directions. Basic math and algebra skills; data interpretation; understanding of microprocessor equipment; familiarity with departmental and hospital information systems. Effective communication in English; critical thinking; ability to work independently; manage multiple tasks; problem-solving; organization and prioritization; attention to detail. Visual and auditory acuity; ability to distinguish colors; temperature perception; hearing sufficient for conversation and alarm sounds; reading medical records and computer screens.

Licensures and Certifications: Respiratory Care Practitioner License from California; Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by NBRC; BLS certification; age-specific Advanced Life Support certifications including PALS and ACLS through AHA; Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP). STABLE Program certification required or to be obtained within six months of hire.
