Job summary

Dignity Health - Memorial Hospital in Bakersfield, CA is seeking a Respiratory Care Practitioner to provide essential respiratory care across neonate to geriatric patients, supporting critical interventions and patient safety.

Responsibilities include arterial punctures, continuous ventilation, airway management, infection control, CPR, and collaboration with physicians during procedures. Requires CA licensure, CPR/ACLS/PALS/NRP, and 1 year RCP experience (5 years total, 3 in CC).

Qualifications

• CA Respiratory Care Practitioner licensure required.
• 1 year of clinical experience in RCP role or 5 years in respiratory care with 3 in critical care.
• Experience with computer systems and hospital documentation.
• CPR, ACLS, PALS, NRP certifications as listed in requirements.
• Registered Respiratory Therapist eligibility or credential.

Responsibilities

• Provide arterial punctures, ventilation support, airway maintenance.
• Manage ventilators and perform routine respiratory procedures.
• Adhere to infection control, isolation and safety protocols.
• Assist physicians with bronchoscopy, intubation, chest procedures.
• Educate patients and families; respond to emergencies hospital-wide.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Respiratory Care Practitioner, you will competently provide essential respiratory care for neonate, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients. Your expertise is vital for critical respiratory interventions and patient well-being.

Every day you will perform arterial punctures, continuous ventilation, airway maintenance, emergency care, infection control, isolation procedures, mechanical ventilator operation, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and medical gas administration.

To be successful, you will possess advanced clinical skills in all aspects of respiratory care across age groups, meticulous attention to detail, a strong commitment to patient safety and infection control, and the ability to perform effectively in emergencies.

• PATIENT ASSESSMENT/REASSESSMENT
• Accurately performs respiratory patient assessment.
• Accurately performs appropriate skin assessment as required.
• Accurately performs appropriate assessment for treatment modality.
• Accurately performs the following routine procedures: ventilator management, aerosol therapy with or without medication; IPPB treatments; administration of aerosolized medications; perform humidity therapy; chest physiotherapy procedures; perform bedside spirometry, maintain artificial airways, administer medical gas and operate analyzers; patient/family education; administer pulse oximetry; performs MDI therapy and education; responds to emergency or 'stat' call throughout hospital; monitors vital signs.
• Assists physicians with procedures such as bronchoscopy, chest tube insertions, intubation, etc.

Job Requirements

Required:

• Education level necessary to obtain required licensure and certifications, upon hire
• One (1) year clinical experience in RCP II position or
• Five (5) years respiratory care experience including three (3) in critical care.
• Experience in the use of computers.

• Neonatal Resuscitation Program
• Registered Respiratory Therapist
• Stable Program, within 12 - months

• Associates Of Science Respiratory Therapy, upon hire

Please be advised that this location requires quarterly American Heart Association (AHA) Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) competency certification post-hire. This ongoing competency is required through resources internal to the facility; outside RQI competency resources are not acceptable for CommonSpirit Health compliance requirements.
