Phoenix Children’s Hospital, Inc. seeks a Part-Time Respiratory Therapist for the Avondale ED campus to provide pediatric respiratory care from neonates through adolescents.

You will work in a high-acuity emergency setting with a multidisciplinary team and play a role in safety and family-centered care. Responsibilities include routine and advanced respiratory procedures, patient assessments, and contributing to quality improvement while maintaining developmental appropriateness in care.

Qualifications

  • Current BLS certification required.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential NBRC required.
  • Arizona Respiratory Care Practitioner license required or eligible.
  • PALS certification preferred or to be obtained within 9 months of hire.
  • AARC membership encouraged and preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Administers respiratory care procedures for pediatric patients in a high-acuity Emergency Department setting.
  • Performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures following established standards and policies.
  • Communicates patient data and care plans clearly with families and the care team.
  • Maintains competency validations and ongoing professional development.
  • Contributes to quality improvement initiatives and safe, developmentally appropriate care.

Position Summary

Posting Note: At Phoenix Children’s, we’re excited to offer a part-time Respiratory Therapist opportunity at our Avondale ED Campus. You'll have the opportunity to provide exceptional respiratory care to pediatric patients ranging from neonates to adolescents in a stand alone Emergency Department in Avondale.


Respiratory Therapists at Phoenix Children’s perform a wide range of routine and advanced respiratory procedures while working alongside multidisciplinary teams in high-acuity and specialty care environments. Responsibilities include caring for patients n an emergency setting, emergency services, and specialty programs while contributing to quality improvement initiatives and maintaining the high standards of care that define our organization.


To qualify, candidates must hold a current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification, be a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) through the NBRC, and possess (or be eligible to obtain) an Arizona Respiratory Care Practitioner license and PALS certification at time of hire or within 9 months of starting. an AARC membership is encouraged and preferred.

This position facilitates and administers respiratory care, including routine and complex procedures, using a wide variety of techniques and equipment. Ensures care meets quality standards established by the hospital, department and regulatory agencies and maintains all skills and knowledge sufficient to provide safe, effective, and developmentally appropriate care to all ages of patients from neonate to adolescent. This position also participates in executing quality improvement initiatives.


Position Duties


  • Safely performs various diagnostic and therapeutic procedures according to established standards, procedural guidelines, and policies. Applies knowledge and understanding of the proper and safe use of all Respiratory Care interventions and related equipment. Successfully completes initial competency validations and ongoing re-validations. Troubleshoots interventions and equipment as it applies to various patient care situations.

  • Interacts with and explains care modalities to patients, families, and the health care team in an understandable manner based on individual diversity and learning styles. Introduces oneself to the family, patient, and health care team. Displays a positive customer relations attitude.

  • Accurately and reliably interprets and communicates patient data. Consistently provides thorough patient clinical status reports to applicable members of the health care team using effective communication methods. Displays a level of inquiry and self development.

  • Assesses patients clinical status, evaluates progress towards goals, and recommends courses of action. Displays personal accountability to locate and follow policy, procedure, and competency references. Makes recommendations based on literature, best practices, and available evidence.

  • Analyzes critical situations and applies appropriate judgment and critical thinking for problem resolution. Communicates experiences, safety concerns, and improvement opportunities to the appropriate personnel. Completes occurrence reports as appropriate.

  • Continuously improves and takes the initiative to develop knowledge and skills through appropriate learning experiences and opportunities. Attends educational offerings, departmental meetings, and stays appraised of departmental and hospital communication. Personally accountable for ongoing self development in advances related to respiratory care.

  • Works effectively in a team-based environment especially during stressful situations involving quickly changing priorities. Displays appropriate leadership skills to instill trust and credibility. Intervenes appropriately in urgent and emergent situations. Actively engaged in patient care planning with the health care team.

  • Manages multiple priorities and applies effective time management skills, using downtime for work related activities. Ensures timely and accurate patient care and billing documentation. Communicates assignment changes in a timely fashion. Maintains an acceptable level of productivity.

  • Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.

Position Qualifications

Education

1. Successful completion of an accredited Respiratory Therapist Program. Required


Experience

1. Post graduation experience in a hospital environment. Preferred


Additional Requirements


  • 1. Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association. Required

  • 2. Current Registered Respiratory Therapist credential (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). Required

  • 3. Current State of Arizona Respiratory Care Practitioner license. Required

  • 4. American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) membership. Preferred

  • 5. Current PALS certification. Preferred
