Respiratory Care Coordinator

The Respiratory Care Coordinator is under the direct supervision of the Director of Respiratory Care Services. He/she is registered by the National Board of Respiratory Care. He/she provides personal care and professional excellence by assisting and supporting the Director in the smooth operation of the department. He/she will be able to perform all of the services offered under Respiratory Care. He/she also maintains current Ohio licensure, NRP, PALS, ACLS and BLS Certifications.

MAJOR TASKS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Provides professional therapy to patients. Serves as a role model. 2. Assists in assuring optimal coverage relative to hospital needs. 3. Provides back-up to staff when workload requires. 4. Monitors the quality of documentation by the staff. 5. Assures proficiency of staff related to hospital and departmental policies and procedures and updates as needed to maintain current reflection of services and practice standards. 6. Advises staff on the management of critical, difficult and long-term patients and makes rounds on these patients as necessary. 7. Participates in on-going evaluation of staff for performance appraisal, and provides input to the Director. 8. Is responsible for department policy and procedure review and revision on a three-year basis, or more frequent if changes in Evidence Base Clinical Practice or processes. 9. Provides information for department meetings and conducts them in the Director’s absence. 10. Communicates and administers Human Resources policies consistently and fairly. 11. Addresses performance and/or disciplinary issues (up to written warning) in a prompt, effective and detailed manner. 12. Receives input from staff members and disseminates information to them either through communication or education. 13. Participates in organization and departmental QA, QI and PI programs, Joint Commission survey preparation, CAP survey, and monitoring compliance with federal and state regulations and agencies. 14. Attends respiratory department leadership meetings. May participate on tasks forces and/or one hospital committee as designated by director. Shares information with director. Attends meetings in director’s absence. 15. Promotes harmonious relationships both inter and intra departmentally. 16. Supports the director in department endeavors, programs, protocol and decisions. 17. Assists in managing overtime expenses to a level consistent with work/budget. 18. Assists with interviewing potential new employees and coordinates their orientation process with documentation of same. 19. Acts as a liaison between Respiratory Care and other departments - promotes the department and hospital. 20. Demonstrate flexibility, respond positively to changes in workload and work directives as team player. 21. Documents patient care using Electronic Medical Record. 22. Communicates with the Director on all matters related to the department or staff. 23. Obtains continuing education and in-service relative to profession and supervision. 24. Competent to care for patients of all ages. 25. Updates respiratory care job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations. 26. Other duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Graduate of an approved respiratory care program Licensure/Certification:
  • Registered through the National Board of Respiratory Care
  • Respiratory Care license through Ohio Medical Board
  • BLS, ACLS, PALS and NRP Certifications Minimum Experience:
  • 5 years acute care experience in all respiratory care modalities within the last 2 years. (General, Acute and Critical Care)
  • Coordinator or Supervisory experience required preferred. WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Normal patient care environment with little exposure to noise, dust, temperature and the like.
  • Lifts weights of approximately 50 lbs., must be able to move freely a large H size cylinder of oxygen on a cart.
  • Substantial physical effort exerted up to fifty percent of work time.
  • Ability to walk, stand, and bend more than eighty percent of time.
  • Frequent (fifty to eighty percent of work time) exposure to adverse conditions.
  • Normal patient care environment with little exposure to noise, dust, temperature and the like.
  • Lifts weights of approximately 50 lbs., must be able to move freely a large H size cylinder of oxygen on a cart.
  • Substantial physical effort exerted up to fifty percent of work time.
  • Ability to walk, stand, and bend more than eighty percent of time.
