Job summary

Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC is seeking a Respiratory Care Apprentice to support Respiratory Care Services in a nonclinical capacity. The position provides paid exposure to the field for first-year respiratory therapy students under supervision, without direct patient care responsibilities.

Under licensed therapist supervision, you will handle equipment processing, supply management, cart readiness, and participation in quality and safety activities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED plus prerequisite coursework.
• Education and readiness to learn in a hospital setting.

Responsibilities

• Provides first-year respiratory care students with paid, structured exposure to Respiratory Care Services while they are not yet eligible to provide direct patient care.
• Supports departmental equipment, supply, educational, quality, and operational activities under the direction of Respiratory Care leadership and licensed Respiratory Care Practitioners.
• Participate in nonclinical quality, safety, and process-improvement activities appropriate to the apprentice’s knowledge.
• Assist with monitoring compliance with equipment-processing and clean-storage standards.
• Identify and report safety risks, equipment concerns, supply deficiencies, or deviations from standard work.
