Job summary

George Mason University is seeking an experienced Resource Sharing Librarian to lead VIVA’s resource sharing programs and support renewal and acquisitions for the consortium’s shared resources.

The role coordinates with central staff and member libraries to enhance statewide access to information resources, guiding strategic analysis, engagement, and cross-institutional activities in a distributed, hybrid environment.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited library and informationscience program, OR a master's degree in a related field, OR a certificated foreign equivalent;
• Experience managing resource-sharing workflows in an academic, government, or consortial library environment;
• Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage competingdeadlines, with flexibility and adaptability, in a distributed workenvironment;
• Demonstrated ability to build collaborative and mutuallybeneficial working relationships with people of varyingbackgrounds, across institutions and roles;
• Ability to communicate complex information clearly andeffectively, in writing and verbally, to varied audiences includingcommittees, member libraries, and vendors; and
• Ability to travel regularly to VIVA meetings and to attendconferences and meetings representing VIVA.

Responsibilities

• Resource Sharing: Serves as the primary VIVA support to its resource sharing community, including standing committees, task forces, working groups, and advisory bodies;
• Product Renewals: In consultation with the E-Resources Librarian and the Digital Publishing Librarian, manages the standard renewal and acquisitions process for shared consortial products as well as opt-in subscriptions in a variety of electronic formats by member libraries, ensuring that annual subscriptions and purchases are accurate and completed in a timely manner.
• Program Initiatives: Contributes to the broader work of VIVA initiatives and taskforce activities across member libraries, as appropriate, including planning and executing other VIVA-sponsored conferences and events; leads the planning of VIVA's annual Interlibrary Loan Community Forum; implements project management frameworks for committee and program initiatives; and supports the continued development of a distributed shared collection for the Commonwealth.
• Strategic Communication: Monitors issues, trends, and best practices in resource sharing and acquisition processes within the higher education landscape; stays current with resource sharing trends and communicates relevant developments to the consortium; and contributes to the broader professional dialogue on behalf of VIVA.

Salary

The anticipated hiring range for this position is $80,000 to$90,000. The final salary and professional ranking fora selectedcandidate will be determined based on factors suchasthequalifications of the individual, including their workexperience, scholarship, and service;internal equity; andalignment with the university's approved pay structures.

VIVA, the academic library consortium of 70 nonprofit academiclibraries in the Commonwealth of Virginia, provides, in anequitable, cooperative and cost-effective manner, enhanced accessto library and information resources for Virginia’s highereducation community. About the Position

Reporting to the Associate Director, the Resource Sharing andAcquisitions Librarian leads VIVA's resource sharing programs andsupports the renewal and acquisitions processes for theconsortium's shared resources. Working with central staff andmember libraries across the Commonwealth, the position advances theresource sharing capabilities of VIVA member libraries and supportscollaborative initiatives that empower Virginia's academiclibraries. Through strategic analysis of statewide needs, memberengagement, and cross-institutional coordination, this positionensures that VIVA's resource sharing programs are responsive to theneeds of Virginia's academic library community.

Resource Sharing

• With the Associate Director, researches, evaluates, andsupports the licensing of services and subscriptions that advanceresource sharing capabilities across Commonwealth institutions.Leads the evaluation and communication of the programmatic impactsof resource sharing initiatives within VIVA; and
• Takes a proactive approach to problem-solving in a distributedenvironment.

Product Renewals

• Considerable experience in academic libraries with increasingresponsibility;
• Experience with library consortia and resource sharingoperations;
• Record of professional engagement and contributions to thelibrary profession through presentations, publications, committeeleadership, or professional service;
• Leadership experience managing cross-institutional projects orteams;
• Knowledge of acquisitions workflows in academic libraries;
• Demonstrated ability to evaluate program effectiveness andcommunicate impact to varied stakeholders;
• Understanding of consortial interlibrary loan programs andlibrary sharing technologies; and
• Demonstrated ability to work independently while maintainingeffective collaboration, communication, and accountability in adistributed or hybrid work environment.
