Qualifications

  • Analyst I: Bachelor's degree in engineering, finance, economics, operations research, mathematics, or business; two years professional related experience is equivalent to one year of college
  • Analyst I: Two years of energy industry experience or equivalent experience working with large optimization/forecasting models
  • Analyst II: Bachelor's degree in engineering, finance, economics, operations research, mathematics, or business
  • Analyst II: Five or more years related work experience
  • Senior Analyst: Bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, economics, or quantitative analysis
  • Senior Analyst: At least eight years utility experience in plant engineering or operations, forecasting, rates, load research, or similar functions providing understanding of generation planning and system modeling techniques
  • Senior Analyst: At least three years modeling experience with expansion or production simulation models
  • Senior Analyst: Extensive system knowledge of at least one of the larger Xcel Energy utilities
  • Graduate work in finance, economics, operations research, or decision analysis preferred

Responsibilities

  • Develop, run, and maintain long-range resource planning models
  • Prepare quantitative analysis of new generation resources, including system cost, environmental, and capital budget impacts
  • Provide long-range estimates of power generation costs and market purchases
  • Calculate revenue requirement streams for large capital investments
  • Apply stochastic analysis techniques to quantify risk
  • Ensure model input assumptions are accurate and simulations and optimizations function correctly
  • Produce quantitative analysis for executives and regulatory filings, including energy production, emissions, and capital budget forecasts
  • Implement Monte Carlo simulations to identify total system cost variance around generation alternatives
  • Collaborate with Forecasting, Risk Management, Trading, Gas Supply, Coal Supply, Transmission Operations, and other Xcel groups
  • Incorporate transmission constraints, growth forecasts, fuel risks, and electricity market price risks into optimal resource plans
  • Maintain accurate and current fuel costs, production capability, and contract terms in expansion plan and production cost modeling
  • Research quantitative optimization techniques for resource planning analysis
  • Maintain working knowledge of emerging generation technology
  • Follow federal and state policies affecting the company's resource plan
