Job summary

Manulife/John Hancock is seeking an Analyst to provide GIS support and analysis for timberland resource information management within Manulife Forest Management (MFM). The role supports MIMTA property management teams and requires experience with ArcGIS.

Hybrid arrangement in Charlotte, NC with salary range noted. Responsibilities include data updates, quality control, and deployment of GIS tools and applications; collaboration with foresters and data teams to advance silvicultural activities

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in forestry or related discipline required.
  • Three or more years of professional experience in resource information / GIS management and analysis, forestry operations preferred.
  • Experience with Esri GIS software and map production; proficient with ArcPro, ArcMap, Esri Collector.
  • Knowledge of forest inventory, GIS, and growth and yield systems.
  • Programming in SQL Server or Python desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and conduct spatial and descriptive resource information system updates with silvicultural activities, inventory data and other information.
  • Provide technical support (mapping and analysis) to MFM operations for annual harvests, establishment and site preparation.
  • Conduct quality control with respect to stand information, spatial data and silvicultural information.
  • Support deployment of GIS tools, information collection tools, analysis tools and applications.
  • Assist with special projects as requested.
  • Support MIMTA business development objectives including property transactions and timberland investment analysis.

The Opportunity

The Analyst provides GIS support and analysis for timberland resource information maintenance and updating for Manulife Forest Management (MFM). The team provides GIS support services to property management teams within the Manulife Investment Management Timberland and Agriculture (MIMTA).

Responsibilities
  • Leadand conductspatial and descriptiveresource informationsystemupdateswithsilvicultural activities, inventory data and other information.
  • Provide technical support (mapping and analysis) toMFM operationsfor the compilation of annual harvests, establishment, and othersite preparationactivities.
  • Conduct quality control with respecttostandinformation, spatial data, and silvicultural information.
  • Support the effective operational deployment of GIS tools, information collection tools, analysis tools, and applications.
  • Assistwith special projects asrequested.
  • Assistsin advancement ofMIMTAbusiness developmentobjectivesincluding propertytransactions,timberlandinvestment analysis,decision support tools,systems,and other strategic businessobjectives.
  • Supportsconformance with SFI certification requirements and support management systems that enable the advancement ofMIMTAforest stewardship commitment.
  • Supportsall aspects of property data tabulation for periodic property appraisals.
  • Work closely with Operational Foresters to support GIS needs, improve communication, and enhance data quality.
What are we looking for
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in forestry or related discipline isrequired.
  • Threeor moreyears professional experience inresource information/ GISmanagement andanalysiswitha strong preference for forestry operations experience.
  • GIS data management, spatial analysis, and map productionexpertiseusingEsri software products includingArcPro,ArcMap, Esri Collector, and web-based workflows.
  • Ability todemonstrateknowledge and understanding of forest operations and the information and analysis needed to supportsilviculture activities.
  • Knowledge in areas offorestinventory, geographic information systems, and growth and yield systems.
  • Programming experience in SQL Server or Python isdesirable.
  • Must have strong PC technical skills.
  • Ability to handle diverse support requests with professionalism and a strong customer supportmentality.
  • Must have strong organizational and analyticalskills.
  • Must bea teamplayer.
  • Must be highly motivated andentrepreneurial.
  • Must have strong oral and written communicationskills.

Salary range is expected to be between

$56,925.00 USD - $94,875.00 USD

Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance. The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
