Description

The Resource Forester in Oregon will work with a great group of people in an environment where safety is top priority. In this role, you will be responsible for being a safety champion; collaborating across multiple teams to ensure best practices; and supervising the Forestry Department.   • A bachelor’s degree in Forest Management or a Natural Resources related field is preferred but not required.
  • 7+ years of log and timber procurement experience in the USA. Experience with log harvesting and quality.
  • Strong computer skills including the ability to prepare spreadsheets and use Microsoft Office Products
  • Previous experience/strong understanding of budgeting/expense management with a basic understanding of financial and accounting practices.
  • Must be a legal US resident. Unfortunately, there is no visa sponsorship offered for this role.
  • Knowledge of Federal timber contracts
  • Highly motivated, results oriented, driven.
  • Experience with Log quality programs and scaling.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and listening ability.
  • Availability to travel as required.
  • Administrative skills and aptitude combined with on-the-ground initiative and capability.
  • Ability to work with teams and lead decision-making processes in a team environment.
  • A strong ability to be adaptable and flexible.
  • Review proposed agency and private timber sales, looking at quantity, quality, and operability.
  • Review and layout sales prior to logging to facilitate log planning.
  • Respond to all calls and concerns to resolve on the ground problems both verbal and in written form at all hours of the day.
  • Oversee designated Purchaser Representatives authorized to receive notices regarding performance and take appropriate action under timber sale contracts.
  • Oversee and manage foresters, and contractors in fulfilling contractual items.
  • Negotiate fair and reasonable logging and hauling rates.
  • Monthly summary and resource reports
  • Maintain scale certification and routine maintenance
  • Maintain records of production by sale, contractor, and volume.
  • Knowledge of contractual matters, interpretation, and ability to communicate and negotiate with agency and private counterparts to ensure contract compliance and completion.
  • Hold pre-work meetings on the ground with contractors and agency regarding contract compliance.
  • Handle all resource concerns and supply the annual needs at the sawmill facility.
  • Ensure compliance with USFS scaling agreement
  • Develop and execute logging plans to facilitate sort, log quality, management of contractors and cash flow
  • Determine best access routes, road and skid trail locations, and logging methods to maximize efficiency.
  • Administer specified road projects, ensure roads are built to standard and completed on time.
  • Administer acquisition of federal, state, BLM and private timber sale contracts.
