Oklahoma Department of Human Services (OKDHS) is seeking Child Welfare Specialists at Level I-III in Shawnee or Chandler, OK. This state civil service role involves extensive travel, driver’s license, and a commitment to safeguarding children and families.

New hires undergo Core Academy training and may receive a 5% salary incentive for Master’s degrees. On-call duties and adoption-focused responsibilities are part of the job, with competitive state benefits offered.

Qualifications

  • Completion of 90 hours from an accredited college or university or 3 years of experience related to child welfare work (Level I).
  • A bachelor's degree (in any field) qualifies for Level II or one year of experience as a Child Welfare Specialist.
  • A Master's degree or a Bachelor's plus one year of experience qualifies for Level III.

Responsibilities

  • All New Employees will complete the Child Welfare Core Academy Training Program.
  • Adoption services help eliminate barriers to adoption and find permanent families for every waiting child for whom adoption is the goal.
  • Consults with other Child Welfare Specialists within other programs to assist in the identification and preparation of foster children for a successful transition with an adoptive family.
  • Recruits, screens, and prepares prospective adoptive families.
  • Assists with the adoption application process and approves or disapproves applicants.
  • Participates in on-call rotation.

Annual Salary
  • Level I H23A - $37,280.75 + Full State Employee Benefits
  • Level II H23B - $40,077.79 + Full State Employee Benefits
  • Level III H23C - $43,968.62 + Full State Employee Benefits

Applicants who possess a Master's Degree in Social Work will be entitled to a salary incentive of an additional 5%.

On-call positions will receive an additional bonus ranging from $75 to $100 every two weeks, depending on responsibilities.

Travel is EXTENSIVE. Must possess a valid driver's license and must maintain required car insurance. State vehicles will be available for use to carry out the duties of the position.

Minimum Qualifications
Child Welfare Specialist, Level I
  • Completion of 90 hours from an accredited college or university
