Description/Job Summary

Lindahl Reed is seeking energy professionals to provide energy engineering and management support services to the Department of Energy, Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP). The candidate will provide technical assistance, including but not limited to energy planning, energy information analysis, energy audits and project development, engineering evaluations, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC)and controls studies, and training to support the development and implementation of robust energy management programs and ensure compliance with federal energy laws, regulations, policies, goals, and directives. The candidate will develop and assist with the implementation of actions/projects in support of facility maintenance, repair, and construction activities, including: providing design review comments; project management support; identification of energy savings projects, and other support activities to ensure that energy efficiency measures and water conservation measures are incorporated into all actions. The candidate will also support energy and water security and resiliency and other initiatives while working to achieve energy and water savings.

Position Responsibilities

  • Conduct both in-person and virtual Re-tuning (Retro-commissioning) training to agency sites/personnel utilizing existing tools such as the Building Retuning Simulator
  • Conduct 1-2 day in-person and virtual Energy and Water Treasure Hunts to identify energy and water savings opportunities
  • Support agency audit requirements to improve their compliance and data benchmarking
  • Analyse and recommend improvements for Operations and Maintenace (O&M) activities
  • Identify FEMP programmatic collaboration opportunities (50001 Ready, O&M, Audits, Treasure Hunts, Procurement, Renewable, etc.)
  • Provide energy training and education to facility stakeholders
  • Document lessons learned and best practices
  • Prepare case studies, articles, and award submittals
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
  • REM II must possess one of the following combinations of education and experience:
    • A four-year engineering degree (preferably in mechanical or electrical engineering) and/or a registered Professional Engineer registration with a minimum of 5 years of experience in energy management.
    • An Environmental Science, business or related degree with a minimum of 8 years of experience in energy management.
    • A two-year technical degree with a minimum of 10 years of experience in energy management.
    • No degree with a minimum of 12 years of experience in energy management
  • Current Certified Energy Manager (CEM) or Certified Energy Auditor (CEA), or ability to obtain certification within 12 months.
  • Expertise in HVAC Commissioning/retro-commissioning, Facility Evaluation, O&M energy savings opportunities.
  • Strong knowledge of utility information systems, metering, mechanical and lighting systems, and federal energy requirements and programs.
  • Experience with energy auditing, project development, life-cycle cost analysis, and building/facility operations.
  • Experience supporting the development and implementation of energy projects using alternative financing mechanisms.
  • Knowledge of Federal energy management requirements
  • Excellent oral/written communication, collaboration, and presentation skills.
  • Critical thinking and decision-making skills coupled with strong analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-starter, driven and able to work with limited direction under target timelines
  • Collaborative personality enjoys and able to work effectively, independently and in a team-oriented environment.
  • Translates complex ideas into processes and tactical plans.
  • Working knowledge of standard office computer software (e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • US Citizenship is required.
  • Ability to pass a government-administered background investigation in order to be granted a Common Access Card and access to government IT systems.
