Job summary

Connecticut Foodshare, in partnership with AmeriCorps VISTA, seeks a dedicated member for a capacity-building role based in Wallingford or Bridgeport. The position runs 01/11/2027–01/10/2028, full-time, with statewide travel and mileage reimbursement.

You will develop learning labs, recruit and train volunteers, and support food assistance programs to expand access and funding for partner programs. You will gain professional experience through mentoring with Connecticut Foodshare staff and VISTA

Qualifications

  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Self-starter, organized and able to multi-task.
  • Interest in research, learning labs and training volunteers.
  • Digital media skills and Microsoft Office experience helpful.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred but not required.

Job description

Connecticut Foodshare is the state's only Feeding America food bank. We support individuals and families – from one end of the state to the other – by addressing root causes, creating long-term solutions, and distributing nutritious food through local partner programs in an effort to alleviate hunger. The goal of this AmeriCorps Volunteer project is to reduce poverty by increasing the capacity of Connecticut Foodshare’s network of 500 partner programs to provide better access to food and related services; allowing food insecure households maximize their limited resources. This role is a good fit for someone with excellent verbal, interpersonal, written, and communication skills with an ability to effectively and respectfully interact with people of all different backgrounds. The ideal applicant should be a self-starter, organized, and able to multi-task. Digital media skills and experience with Microsoft Office products are important. This applicant must have a passion for helping others with dignity and creating a thriving community free of hunger. Bilingual in English and Spanish (written and verbal) preferred but not required. The position is based out of the Wallingford or Bridgeport offices with statewide travel - mileage reimbursed. Must have own transportation.

Member Duties

The candidate will have an opportunity to support food assistance programs (meal centers and food pantries) to build capacity and shape the experience of the people served. This AmeriCorps Volunteer will build capacity by developing and offering learning labs to support partners to increase access to food and funding sources as well as attract, train, and manage volunteers teams. The ideal member would have an interest and experience with research and training and possess a collaborate, creative, and problem-solving nature. This role will enrich the member professionally and personally while serving a 5-year Top Workplace award winner. The VISTA will have the opportunity to train with current Connecticut Foodshare staff as well as participate in VISTA trainings.
