Qualifications

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Working knowledge of resistance spot welding principles and weld quality fundamentals.
  • Experience with industrial electrical systems, AC/DC circuits, motors, drives, sensors, and control systems.
  • Ability to read electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical schematics.
  • Basic understanding of PLC-controlled equipment and troubleshooting.
  • 1-2 years of experience maintaining automated manufacturing equipment or robotic systems.

About the Role

The Weld Technician is responsible for the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of highly automated robotic resistance spot welding systems and associated production equipment. This role supports safe, high-quality, high-volume manufacturing by ensuring equipment reliability, weld quality, process stability, and production uptime. The technician serves as a primary technical resource for resolving equipment issues, supporting production goals, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

This role aligns well with candidates who have industrial maintenance, automation, or robotic welding experience.

What You’ll Do

Welding Equipment & Process Support

  • Set up, operate, troubleshoot, and maintain automated resistance welding equipment, including rotating die welding systems, weld controllers, transformers, power distribution systems, cooling systems, tooling, and related production equipment.
  • Monitor and optimize weld quality by verifying weld schedules, current, force, squeeze time, weld time, hold time, and other critical process parameters.
  • Diagnose weld defects and perform root cause analysis involving tooling, electrodes, machine alignment, electrical systems, or process conditions.
  • Inspect, maintain, and replace weld tips, electrodes, tooling components, and other wear items.
  • Support equipment changeovers, startups, shutdowns, process adjustments, and production recovery activities.
  • Perform weld inspections, validation checks, and process monitoring to ensure compliance with quality standards and customer requirements.

Robotics & Automation

  • Troubleshoot and maintain industrial robotic systems, including Motoman/Yaskawa, FANUC, or similar platforms.
  • Perform robot fault recovery, I/O diagnostics, mastering, teach-point adjustments, TCP verification, and basic program modifications.
  • Monitor robotic cell performance, sensors, interlocks, material handling systems, and automation controls.
  • Support automation improvements, equipment validation, and process trials.

Troubleshooting & Maintenance

  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, robotic, and process-related failures.
  • Troubleshoot sensors, VFDs, servos, relays, contactors, motor controls, safety circuits, and PLC-controlled equipment.
  • Read and interpret electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical schematics.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and approved mechanical repairs to maintain equipment reliability and reduce downtime.
  • Document findings, corrective actions, and escalating complex issues when required.

Production, Safety & Continuous Improvement

  • Support daily production goals by improving equipment uptime, throughput, quality, scrap reduction, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
  • Collaborate with Production, Engineering, Quality, and Maintenance teams to resolve recurring issues and improve process performance.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities related to safety, quality, productivity, ergonomics, and cost reduction.
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) requirements.
  • Maintain compliance with quality standards, work instructions, SOPs, and manufacturing best practices.

Additional Expectations

  • Remain compliant with the Code of Conduct and Policies which includes the Kingspan Group Compliance Policy.
  • Ensure that all duties related to product compliance are adhered to in accordance with the Product Compliance Policy, Laws, Regulations, and market demands.
  • Responsible for all tasks to achieve compliance goals and demands of the Compliance Management System.
  • Must raise concerns related to the Compliance Management System to their supervisor, manager, or any member of the Leadership Team, or through the confidential whistle blower service.

What You’ll Bring

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Working knowledge of resistance spot welding principles and weld quality fundamentals.
  • Experience with industrial electrical systems, AC/DC circuits, motors, drives, sensors, and control systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical schematics.
  • Basic understanding of PLC-controlled equipment and troubleshooting.
  • 1-2 years of experience maintaining automated manufacturing equipment, robotic systems, or welding equipment preferred.
  • Experience with automated welding processes and industrial robotics preferred.
  • High-volume manufacturing experience is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in Industrial Maintenance, Automation, Mechatronics, Robotics, or Welding Technology.
  • FANUC, Motoman/Yaskawa, or equivalent robotic training/certification.
  • AWS welding certification or robotic welding certification.
  • Experience with automated resistance spot welding systems in a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of rotating die welding systems, tooling alignment, sequential welding operations, and electrode maintenance.
  • Lean Manufacturing, TPM, Continuous Improvement, or OEE improvement experience.
  • Ability to analyze weld quality and production data to identify improvement opportunities.
