Job summary

Youth Opportunity is seeking a Residential Shift Supervisor to oversee daily operations and staff on assigned shifts at our Nashville youth residential program. You will ensure safety, staffing coverage, and smooth facility operations.

Qualified candidates have a High School Diploma (Bachelor’s preferred) and at least 3 years of experience with youth in residential care, plus supervisory experience. The role offers up to $21.00/hour and a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with youth in a residential setting required.
• Prior supervisory experience preferred.
• Ability to assess youth with substance abuse, mental health, and trauma history.
• Must pass background check and drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Supervise staff, assign duties, evaluate performance, and provide training and corrective guidance.
• Assist with developing staff schedules and ensuring adequate coverage for safe and effective facility operations.
• Monitor facility security and ensure compliance with state regulations and agency policies.
• Oversee youth behavior management, review incidents, and investigate grievances.
• Supervise medication administration and ensure accurate documentation.
• Assist with youth appointments, transports, and intake/discharge procedures.
• Communicate regularly with leadership regarding staffing, safety, and operational concerns.
• Conduct security checks, monitor electronic systems, and oversee room searches as needed.
• Provide emergency response coordination during incidents such as fire or severe weather.

About Youth Opportunity & Walnut Rosewood Youth Academy

Youth Opportunity is a nationally recognized leader in residential and behavioral health treatment for at-risk youth. In Nashville, Tennessee, Walnut Youth Academy and Rosewood Youth Academy each provide structured, trauma-informed residential treatment in 30-bed settings.

Walnut Youth Academy serves girls ages 13 to 18, while Rosewood Youth Academy serves boys ages 13 to 19 in a secure treatment environment. Both programs offer a comprehensive combination of intensive mental health treatment, substance use intervention and prevention, academic instruction, therapeutic recreation, restorative justice, expressive therapies, and enrichment opportunities such as art, music, recreation, and dedicated educational programming.

Youth typically remain in care for about six months and participate in individual, family, and group therapy; life and social skills training; anger replacement training; psychoeducation; victim impact awareness; substance use programming; and, where appropriate, pre-vocational preparation. Programming is delivered 24/7 in small group living units, providing a structured and supportive environment focused on treatment, growth, skill development, and successful community reintegration.

We are hiring a Residential Shift Supervisor to oversee daily operations and staff during assigned shifts. The Shift Supervisor ensures the safe and effective operation of the facility and provides leadership and direction to staff working directly with youth in our care.

Residential Shift Supervisor Responsibilities

Required Qualifications

• Ability to assess youth with substance abuse, mental health, and trauma history

Preferred Skills

• First Aid/CPR certified (or ability to obtain during probationary period)
• Strong leadership, supervision, and conflict resolution skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication
• Ability to collaborate with law enforcement, probation, courts, and caseworkers
• Sensitivity to cultural, gender, and individual differences

Physical Demands

Must be physically healthy and emotionally stable. Ability to engage with youth, participate in activities, and intervene physically if needed. Must be free from communicable diseases as defined by the state. Ability to pass evaluations for physical techniques and written certification exam.
