Job Summary:
Provide high quality health care to Kaiser Permanente members in a cost-effective manner and in accordance with accepted professional practice standards.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Provide high quality health care through direct screening, diagnosis and formulation/implementation of treatment plan for mental health patients (may include depression, anxiety, marital conflicts, etc., in individuals, couples, families or groups). Document all care in patients' medical records in accordance with medical/legal standards. Provide all care following practice standards and hospital/clinic protocols (including supervision by a physician).
- Manage cases through appropriate triaging, referrals, reporting to other providers, telephone contact with patients and families, and contact with outside agencies.
- Consult with other department providers regarding treatment plans.
- Perform other duties as requested.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience
- Two (2) years of clinical experience, including conducting urgent psychiatric assessments and/or facilitating crisis stabilization interventions for high acuity patients in settings such as emergency departments, community mental health clinics, residential or inpatient psychiatric units, or equivalent.
Education
- Masters level degree or higher required (e.g., M.S.W., M.S., M.A., M.Ed.).
License, Certification, Registration
- Credentials from multiple states are required at hire, with credentials from the primary work state required initially. Additional credentials from secondary states are required post-hire.
- Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (Washington) within 6 months of hire AND Licensed Clinical Social Worker (Oregon) within 6 months of hire, OR
- Professional Counselor License (Oregon) within 6 months of hire AND Mental Health Counselor License (Washington) within 6 months of hire, OR
- Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (Oregon) within 6 months of hire AND Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (Washington) within 6 months of hire, OR
- Psychologist License (Oregon) within 6 months of hire AND Psychologist License (Washington).
- National Provider Identifier required at hire.
Additional Requirements:
- Thorough knowledge of psychosocial diagnostic categories and treatment approaches, including evidence-based modalities, suicide assessment, and therapeutic crisis intervention.
- Knowledge of legal requirements for reporting abuse and homicidal threats.
- Ability to assess, diagnose, and develop treatment plans quickly and accurately.
- Effective intervention skills for emergent mental health problems.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to establish rapport with a diverse patient population and tailor communication accordingly.
- Ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team and manage conflicts professionally.
- Remain calm and use appropriate skills to defuse potentially violent or aggressive situations.
- Resilience to manage emotional impact in cases of patient suicide, with ability to evaluate clinical decisions and learn from experiences.
- Ability to adapt to policy, regulation, and procedural changes impacting patient care.
- Proficiency in electronic medical records and in diagnosing and treating both child and adult mental health patients, including individual, couple, family, and group therapy.
- Proven ability to provide crisis intervention and milieu management.
- Utilize de-escalation skills and support behavioral interventions.
- Proficiency in standardized risk assessment tools.
- Effective working with complex patients independently and within teams.
- Ability to treat a wide age range (adults and geriatrics) with diverse DSM diagnoses and co-occurring conditions.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Deep knowledge of psychological diagnostic categories and evidence-based treatments.
- Familiarity with outcome measures, CBT, DBT.
- Understanding of legal reporting requirements and ethical guidelines for therapists.
- Experience managing large caseloads and working with extensive provider/support staff.
- Proficiency in electronic medical records, email communication, and Windows applications.
- Knowledge of co-occurring disorders.
- Four (4) years of clinical experience, including high-acuity psychiatric assessments and crisis stabilization.
- Three (3) years in milieu management, case management, and facilitating treatment groups in various settings.
- One (1) year in addiction treatment assessments and group facilitation.
- LCSW licensure preferred.
