Job summary

The North Carolina School for the Deaf (NCSD) in Morganton, NC, is seeking a dedicated Residential Life Coordinator (S) to lead the school's residential program on the second shift. The role supervises staff, promotes safety and well-being, and provides a structured living environment for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students.

Responsibilities include policy enforcement, activity planning, mentorship, and collaboration with staff, families, and other departments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in child development, special education, education or a closely related field and one year of experience with the population served, in a residential program, or in a goal-oriented program.
• Or Bachelor’s degree in any discipline and two years of the above experience.
• Or Associate’s degree and three years of the above experience, one of which must have been supervisory.
• Or High school/GED and five years of the above experience, two of which must have been supervisory.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and monitor students during non-instructional hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, ensuring their safety and well-being.
• Implement and enforce school policies within the residential setting, promoting a positive and structured living environment.
• Develop and facilitate engaging recreational, social, and educational activities for students.
• Provide guidance and support to students in life skills, including personal hygiene and independence.
• Mentor students and advocate for their individual needs.
• Communicate with students, parents/guardians, staff, and external stakeholders regarding progress and concerns.
• Administer medication as prescribed and provide basic first aid as needed.
• Maintain records of attendance, behavior, and participation in activities.
• Collaborate with residential staff, teachers, and support services for holistic development.
• Engage in professional development related to residential life and Deaf/Hard of Hearing students.
