Residential Life Adviser

This is an exciting opportunity to join a thriving department within the Student Journey and Support Service (SJS) at the University of East Anglia. You will be a core member of the Student Life Section of SJS. Working shifts, as part of a 365 day staffing team, you will work proactively and reactively with the student community to maintain positive relationships and wellbeing. As a main point of contact, outside of ordinary office hours, the Residential Life Advisers will support students living in UEA halls of residences to navigate and adapt to life living at University.
You will work towards building a strong sense of a campus community, this will include undertaking welfare checks, responding to incident, running activities and proactively engaging with students. You will also supervise a small team of student volunteers, Student Services Residents (SSRs), whose operational work is coordinated by the Residential Life Advisers.
Shift Pattern
The Residential Life Advisers generally work waking shifts comprising:
2 x Early shifts = 11am to 9pm
2 x Late shifts = 7pm to 7am
4 x Rest days
This includes weekends and bank holidays. There are two periods in the year in which you operate 9am-5pm. This is a 4 week period during the Easter holidays and a 6 week period late July to early September.
This full-time post is available from 1 August 2025 on an indefinite basis.
The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Appointment will be subject to a criminal record check at Enhanced level from the Disclosure and Barring Service, including a check of the Child Barred List. It is an offence to apply for this role if you are barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children.
