Job summary

LIFESPAN Services is seeking compassionate direct support professionals to help individuals with disabilities live independently and participate in daily activities across the Charlotte area. You’ll teach skills, promote inclusion, mentor social interactions, assist with daily living tasks, prepare meals, monitor health and safety, document activities in electronic records, and support mobility and transportation as needed.

Training is provided, and a strong commitment to safety is essential.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Pass criminal record and healthcare registry check.
• Pass drug screen and driving record check if providing transportation.
• Current First Aid/CPR certification or training provided by ARC instructors.
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds independently.

Responsibilities

• Teach skills to promote independence.
• Support community inclusion and integration.
• Mentor individuals to build social skills and relationships.
• Provide guidance in daily activities.
• Assist with eating, bathing, dressing, personal hygiene, and other daily living tasks.
• Assist with meal preparation.
• Monitor and report on health and safety objectives.
• Assist with participation in leisure/recreational activities.
• Document activities in an electronic health record and submit documentation by deadlines.
• Complete initial and ongoing training and participate in staff development.
• Depending on the person, administer medications (training provided; nursing support available).
• Provide transportation to and from designated sites if required.
• Assist with mobility needs using transfer techniques or assistive devices.
