Job summary

Norfolk State University is seeking an Electrician Technician III to support residential halls. You will perform electrical repairs, inspections, and installations to ensure safe, reliable power and lighting across dorms.

The role requires knowledge of electrical systems, ability to obtain Journeyman license within 1 year, and a valid driver’s license. The position is full-time and based on NSU campus in Norfolk.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated knowledge of materials, tools, and equipment used in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and components.
• Ability to receive Journeyman’s Electrician certification within 1 year of employment.
• Valid Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Inspects and tests electrical lighting, signal, communication and power circuits and equipment; changes bulbs as needed.
• Isolates faults in wiring, switches, motors, and other electrical equipment with testing instruments.
• Uses testing meters to verify circuits and power.
• Replaces faulty switches, sockets, plugs, fuses, insulators and other simple elements to ensure proper operation.
• Ensures all work meets required safety codes.
• Performs problem solving and troubleshooting.
• Able to use ladders in installation, maintenance, alteration, and repair of electrical systems.
