Job summary

Ostrom in Roanoke, VA, is seeking a Residential Electrical Apprentice to learn the trade from the ground up. You’ll be paid while you train toward electrical licensure, with on-site work installing and repairing panels, lighting, and EV chargers.

No prior experience is required; you’ll join Ostrom University for rapid, hands-on instruction and mentorship on safety, NEC basics, and field diagnostics. Full-time, year-round work with benefits.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must be 18+ and able to lift up to 70 lbs.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• No experience required; on-the-job training through Ostrom University.
• Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug screen.
• Must be 18 years or older to apply.

Responsibilities

• Assist lead electricians with installing and repairing main panels, subpanels, lighting, outlets, switches, generators, and EV chargers.
• Learn to safely track down faults, outages, tripped breakers, and wiring issues.
• Build knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), circuit layouts, and electrical diagnostics.
• Handle tools and diagnostic equipment of the trade.
• Keep the truck stocked, clean, and ready to roll.
• Represent Ostrom with courtesy and respect in every home you walk into.
• Follow all safety protocols, OSHA standards, NFPA 70E guidelines, and local electrical codes.

Residential Electrical Apprentice

EV chargers, generators, panel upgrades: homes are running on more power than ever, and the Roanoke Valley needs more electricians to keep up. Ostrom is looking for an Electrical Apprentice who wants to learn the trade from the ground up, get paid while doing it, and work toward a license and a truck of their own. No experience needed. Apprentices are enrolled in Ostrom University, our in-house training program built to fast-track you toward becoming a licensed electrician.

What You'll Do

• Work alongside lead electricians installing and repairing main panels, subpanels, lighting, outlets, switches, generators, and EV chargers


• Learn to safely track down faults, outages, tripped breakers, and wiring issues


• Build your knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), circuit layouts, and electrical diagnostics


• Get hands-on with the tools and diagnostic equipment of the trade


• Keep your truck stocked, clean, and ready to roll


• Protect every customer's home with drop cloths and shoe covers, and leave it spotless


• Represent Ostrom with courtesy and respect in every home you walk into

Requirements

What You Bring

• A strong work ethic and the drive to become a licensed electrician


• Mechanical and math aptitude and comfort with hand and power tools


• Clear, friendly communication with customers and teammates


• Ability to lift up to 70 lbs and work in attics, crawl spaces, and all kinds of weather


• Prior electrical, construction, or hands-on experience is a plus, but not required


• High school diploma or GED


• Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and reliable transportation
