Job summary

Ostrom in Roanoke, VA is seeking a Residential Plumbing Apprentice to learn the trade from the ground up, get paid while you train, and build toward a licensed plumber status. The role offers on-the-job learning with hands-on experience alongside lead plumbers.

No experience is required; you will enroll in Ostrom University and grow toward earning your plumber’s license and owning your own truck as you progress.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• No prior plumbing experience required; willing to learn on the job.

Responsibilities

• Work with lead plumbers on service calls, installs, and repairs (water heaters, fixtures, piping).
• Learn to diagnose leaks, low water pressure, and drainage issues.
• Use hand tools, pipe threaders, soldering and brazing equipment, and diagnostic tools.
• Keep truck stocked, clean, and ready for jobs.
• Represent Ostrom with courtesy and respect in homes visited.
• Follow safety protocols, OSHA standards, and local plumbing codes.

Residential Plumbing Apprentice
Ostrom | Roanoke, VA | Full-Time

Start a trade that can't be outsourced.

Every home in the Roanoke Valley needs a plumber, and the demand isn't slowing down. Ostrom is looking for a Plumbing Apprentice who wants to learn the trade from the ground up, get paid while doing it, and build toward a license and a truck of their own. No experience needed. Apprentices are enrolled in Ostrom University, our in-house training program built to fast-track you toward becoming a licensed plumber.

What You'll Do

• Work alongside lead plumbers on service calls, installs, and repairs: water heaters, fixtures, and copper, PEX, and PVC piping
• Learn to track down leaks, low water pressure, and drainage problems like a pro
• Get hands-on with the tools of the trade, including pipe threaders, soldering and brazing equipment, and diagnostic tools
• Keep your truck stocked, clean, and ready to roll
• Protect every customer's home with drop cloths and shoe covers, and leave it spotless
• Represent Ostrom with courtesy and respect in every home you walk into
• Follow all safety protocols, OSHA standards, and local plumbing codes

Requirements

What You Bring

• A strong work ethic and the drive to become a licensed plumber
• Mechanical aptitude and comfort with hand and power tools
• Clear, friendly communication with customers and teammates
• Ability to lift up to 70 lbs and work in crawl spaces, basements, and all kinds of weather
• Prior plumbing, construction, or hands-on experience is a plus, but not required
• High school diploma or GED
• Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and reliable transportation
• Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug screen
• Must be 18 years of age or older to apply
