Job summary

GFL Environmental seeks an energetic Residential Commercial Driver (CDL) to join our Newport, NC team. You will operate local residential routes, service neighborhoods, and represent GFL with a courteous, safety-minded attitude while delivering reliable waste collection.

Drive side-loaders and automated trucks, perform daily pre- and post-trip inspections, coordinate with helpers and supervisors, and maintain high route standards.

Qualifications

• Class A or B CDL with clean driving record.
• 1+ years commercial driving experience OR CDL school certificate.
• Ability to handle outdoor conditions and physical tasks.
• Commitment to safety and local traffic laws.
• Professional demeanor when interacting with residents.

Responsibilities

• Operate residential routes in Newport using side-loaders, rear-loaders and automated trucks.
• Collect solid waste, recyclables, and yard waste per route sheets.
• Provide courteous, professional service and uphold route quality standards.
• Perform daily pre- and post-trip inspections for safety.
• Coordinate with helpers, mechanics, and supervisors to keep routes running smoothly.

What You'll Do

• Master Neighborhood Routes: Safely operate residential collection vehicles (side-loaders, rear-loaders, and automated trucks) to service neighborhoods across Newport.
• Keep Communities Green: Efficiently collect solid waste, recyclables, and yard waste according to daily route sheets.
• Be the Face of GFL: Provide courteous, professional service to residents and uphold route quality standards.
• Prioritize Safety: Perform required daily pre- and post-trip inspections to ensure your vehicle is safe and road-ready.
• Work as a Team: Coordinate closely with helpers, mechanics, and supervisors to keep your route running smoothly and safely.

What We're Looking For

• Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a clean driving record.
• Experience: 1+ years of commercial driving experience OR a certificate from an accredited CDL school.
• Physical Readiness: Ability to maneuver in and out of the cab, handle outdoor conditions, and manage physical aspects of residential collection.
• Safety First Mindset: Strong commitment to local traffic laws, company safety procedures, and defensive driving.
• Customer Service Attitude: Professional demeanor with a positive, helpful attitude when interacting with local residents.

Primary Location: Newport, NC (Local residential routes, full-time hours, daytime schedule)
