Job Description: Residential Counselor
This position involves supervising and managing children and adolescents with various mental health conditions within a therapeutic residential setting.
Essential Functions:
- Ensure the safety of residents by adhering to medical and safety policies approved by New Hope WV1 Inc.
- Provide therapeutic supervision during treatment activities.
- Report any disruptive or concerning behavior to the Program Supervisor immediately.
- Assist in orienting new residents and ongoing education about program rules and expectations.
- Manage aggressive residents using approved de-escalation and behavior management techniques, including physical restraint if necessary.
- Coordinate therapeutic activities and oversee residents' completion of hygiene, chores, journaling, homework, or other assignments.
- Document resident behavior and interventions daily in the health record, following approved formats.
- Maintain constant supervision of residents through rounds and counts.
- Participate actively in a multidisciplinary treatment team.
- Attend all required meetings and training sessions, maintaining necessary hours.
- Monitor and supervise behavioral interventions as outlined in individual treatment plans.
- Provide timely documentation of interventions related to treatment goals.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Perform duties such as meal preparation, medication administration, and temperature documentation.
- Assist with transportation of residents using facility vehicles.
- Serve as primary advocate for up to three residents, reporting progress to the treatment team.
- Work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Essential Characteristics:
- Decisiveness and credibility.
- Ability to build effective working relationships.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Understanding of child and adolescent developmental issues.
- Knowledge of residents' rights.
Qualifications
- Experience working with children is preferred but not required.
- High School Diploma is mandatory.
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- Must pass background check and drug screening.
