Job description

The Residential Counselor Aide will assist licensed Behavioral Health Clinicians and the Program Coordinator in the delivery of residential services for youth from eleven (11) to seventeen (17) years old. The incumbent performs duties such as, transporting residents, maintaining client records, monitoring and documenting behavior, and conducting outreach activities.

  1. Responsible for general housekeeping, of the Yoeme Kari Group Home residence, including staff offices.
  2. Assist with in-house supervision of youth in residence throughout the evening and morning routines.
  3. Assist in orienting and introducing new residents to the group home.
  4. Share observations on residents in the facility and participate in case plan implementation.
  5. Accompany and transport youth to dentist and doctor appointments, school functions, and recreational outings.
  6. Assist in planning recreational outing for residents.
  7. Attend staff meetings.
  8. Report and notify appropriate authorities on significant incidents that occur on or off premises that involve group home residents.
  9. Require working shifts on weekends, evenings, nights, and holidays.
  10. Prepare incident reports.
  11. Perform other duties of a similar nature or level as requested by supervisor or director.
Knowledge of:
  • Basic technical terminology and behavioral techniques used in working with teenagers;
  • Community resources and services available to youth;
  • HIPAA requirements of behavioral health;
  • Recordkeeping techniques;
  • Yaqui culture, customs, resources and traditions and/or a willingness to learn.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Prepare meals;
  • Organize daily activities of the residents;
  • Plan recreational outings for residents, ensuring a safe environment;
  • Communicate effectively with youth;
  • Report and handle difficult situations;
  • Maintain confidentiality of information;
  • Compile and report data;
  • Operate a variety of office equipment, including a computer and related software applications;
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with co-workers, supervisor, management, Council members, and the public. Have ability to sufficiently exchange or convey information and receive verbal and written work instructions.

High School Diploma or GED.

AND
  • Experience with working with youth for at least one year is preferred;
  • Experience with and knowledge of the local community and programs is desired;
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred, but not required.
Special Requirements:
  • Must be at least 21 years old;
  • Must be First Aid and CPR Certified or obtain certification within one month of hire;
  • Must have no moving violations on driving records in the last three (3) years;
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver's License;
  • This position will require the incumbent to work non-traditional hours, nights, and weekends;
  • Must have a current Level 1 Arizona Clearance Card. Failure to maintain a current Level 1 Clearance Card will result in termination.
