Refuse Collection Driver Job Description

Perform refuse collection and transport duties using a side load truck with a Power Take Off (PTO) and ancillary devices. Maintain assigned collection equipment and support the Solid Waste Department with related duties.

This is a safety-sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing.

Minimum Qualifications

1. High School diploma or GED, or successful completion of two (2) WorkKeys Skills Assessments. Click here for assessment scheduling information. The required scores are:

• Workplace Documents: Level 3
• Graphic Literacy: Level 3

One (1) year of driving experience, preferably with a Commercial Driver's License (CDL).

Experience or familiarity with PTO and ancillary devices is preferred.

Automotive or transportation technology coursework is a plus.

If lacking a diploma or GED, passing the WorkKeys assessments is mandatory for application.

Possession of a valid New Mexico CDL (Class A or B).

Within six (6) months of hire, obtain a City Operator's Permit (COP).

Successful completion of classroom and on-the-job training for refuse collection.

Availability to work overtime, weekends, and holidays.
