The City of Cleveland seeks a Residential Building Inspector responsible for ensuring compliance with construction laws and codes. This role plays a crucial part in enforcing standards in residential buildings, requiring a high school diploma, relevant experience, and OBBS certification. The Inspector will work under the Division of Code Enforcement, promoting safety and adherence to regulations.
(Formerly Housing Inspector) Under supervision of the Commissioner of the Division of Code Enforcement and the Bureau Manager - Building, makes inspections of One-, Two-, and Three-Family Dwellings during the course of construction to ensure compliance with laws, ordinances, rules, and regulations related to construction, alteration, movement, enlargement, replacement, repair, equipment, use and occupancy, location, maintenance, removal, and demolition. Performs related duties as required to enforce the Cleveland Housing Code, Cleveland Zoning Code, and the Ohio Residential Code.
Note: This classification uses the working titles of Residential Building Inspector I, II, and III, depending on experience, certifications, and examinations taken.
Qualifications: A High School Diploma or GED is required. A valid State of Ohio Driver's License is required. One of the following is required:
Exception: For Residential Building Inspector I, Interim Certifications are required. A State of Ohio Board of Building Standards (OBBS) certification as a Residential Building Inspector is required and must be maintained throughout employment.
Residential Building Inspector Levels:
OBBS Residential Building Inspector Certification is REQUIRED at the time of applying, or OBBS Residential Building Inspector Interim Certification is REQUIRED at the time of applying.
