Job summary

WP Appraisers is a growing residential appraisal firm in Houston, TX. We hire trainees as full-time W-2 employees and invest in turning them into licensed appraisers. You will start with hands-on training under a Certified Residential Supervisory Appraiser and learn every part of the job.

As a Trainee, you’ll inspect properties, research markets, and help prepare reports compliant with USPAP and TALCB requirements. This paid program includes a $40,000 starting salary and clear paths to licensure.

Qualifications

• Must have completed the Texas Appraiser Trainee qualifying education and meet TALCB requirements.
• Authorized to work in the U.S. with a valid driver's license.
• No field experience required; training provided.

Responsibilities

• Inspect homes inside and out; measure, photograph, and note condition and features.
• Research the market with comparable sales and neighborhood trends.
• Assist in preparing USPAP-compliant appraisal reports.
• Coordinate inspections with the Appraisal Desk and homeowners or agents.
• Travel to properties across the Houston metro area.

We hire trainees as full-time W-2 employees and invest in turning them into skilled, licensed appraisers. Our mission is to empower our team to reach their full potential, and to make the appraisal the easiest part of the loan process.

What you'll do.

Almost every home loan needs an appraisal: an independent, professional opinion of what a property is worth. As a trainee, you'll learn every part of the job hands-on.

• Inspect homes inside and out. Measure, photograph, and note condition and features.
• Research the market. Comparable sales, listings, and neighborhood market trends.
• Help prepare appraisal reports that comply with USPAP and Texas requirements, taking on more of each report as you're ready.
• Coordinate inspections with our Appraisal Desk, your director, and homeowners or agents.
• Drive to properties across the Houston metro in urban, suburban and rural markets.

Training, pay and benefits.

• Hands-on training. Learn under a Certified Residential Supervisory Appraiser, alongside a team of experienced appraisers you can learn from every day.
• Quality Control review. Our QC team reviews every file before delivery, so you learn with a real safety net.
• $40,000 starting salary, paid biweekly while you train.
• Commission when you're ready. Move to 35% of the net fee as soon as your supervisor determines you're ready, with higher splits as you become Licensed and Certified. Faster learners move to commission sooner.
• A clear path. Log your supervised experience hours on the way from Trainee to Licensed Residential to Certified Residential Appraiser.
• We cover your costs. We reimburse your completed trainee coursework and pay for your ongoing education, licensing fees, MLS access and professional insurance.
• Tools and support. A laptop, monitor and industry-leading appraisal software. Our Appraisal Desk handles administrative duties.

What we're looking for.

• Coachable, self-motivated and reliable. You follow through without being chased.
• Coursework or experience in real estate, finance, business, economics, construction, lending or insurance is a plus, but not required.
• Valid driver's license, reliable vehicle and auto insurance.
• Physically able to climb stairs and ladders, enter attics and crawlspaces, and work outdoors in Texas weather.
• Authorized to work in the U.S. and able to pass a background check.
