Residential Advisors Part Time Weekend Shift

Girard College is a full scholarship boarding school that fosters intellectual curiosity, social development, and emotional growth in academically focused students from underserved communities. We ensure every student the opportunity and the means to achieve excellence and preparation for advanced education through purposeful academic and residential programs.

Girard College continuously seeks to recruit top part time residential advisor talent for all grades 1-12. Our ideal residential advisor candidates have a passion and are committed to the achievement and success of children that are in their care. They enjoy supervising, mentoring, guiding, and engaging with children outside of the classroom.

The schedule anticipated for one female and one male for each shift is as follows and the Weekend Program 2024/2025 School Year begins on tentatively October 4, 2024.

Shift 1 (16 hours per week) – Saturday and Sunday – hours 7 am to 3 pm

Shift 2 (18 hours per week) – Friday hours 5 pm to 11 pm, Saturday hours 3 pm to 11 pm and Sunday hours 3 pm to 7 pm

Essential Expectations of Girard College Residential Advisors (Weekend Program) Include but Are Not Limited to:

  • Support the students’ academic work through regular interaction with their teachers and caregivers.
  • Support the academic curriculum through homework support and out-of-school programs.
  • Instruct and facilitate the Residential/Life Skills and Social Emotional Learning Curriculums.
  • Provide an accessible, supportive, and nurturing living environment for the students.
  • Wake students and supervise them during weekend hours.
  • Accompany and supervise students to brunch and dinner.
  • Actively participate in weekend activities, on and off campus, including community service projects and transportation support when you are on duty.
  • Enforce the College’s Student Code of Conduct.
  • Serve as a role model for the students at all times.
  • Attend scheduled meetings.
  • Cultivate and consistently maintain hospitable relationships with students, families and members of the Girard College community.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

Education, Skill and Ability Requirements:

  • Previous child-care experience or supervision of children required.
  • A minimum of an associate’s degree (or working toward one).
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Computer literate.
  • Current Driver’s License with a clean driving record, and willingness to drive nine-seat passenger vans.

Physical Requirements:

  • Extensive walking, climbing stairs (up to four flights), standing and sitting for long periods. Reaching, stretching, bending, stooping and other physical efforts required carrying up to 20 pounds.
  • Manipulating buttons, zippers, shoelaces, etc. requires fine motor skills to assist student’s dress.
  • Responding quickly in emergencies. Requires fast walking and traversing stairs quickly.
  • The ability to get in and out of a van or school bus as well as the ability to drive a van.

Schedule:

  • Weekend Hours, starting Friday at 6 pm. Friday-Sunday. (schedule is subject to change).
  • The 2024/2025 School Year begins in October 2024.
