Job DetailsJob Location: Elkhorn City - 5971 Poor Bottom Road - Elkhorn City, KY 41522Position Type: Full TimeEducation Level: High SchoolSalary Range: $17.50 - $17.50 HourlyPosition Summary: The Residential advisor/preceptor is responsible for providing routing daily support, monitoring and documentation of the daily activities of those participating in the residential program. An individual in this position will be responsible for documentation of all on and offsite activities of the participant. This position is also tasked with ensuring the safety of all program participants and ensuring compliance with program rules and WestCare policies. Additionally this person assists with properly training newly onboarded staff and verifying items assigned to other residential advisors are completed at the direction of the program director.

Essential Job Functions include those listed below. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Monitors the daily activities of the program participants
  • Training new direct care staff
  • Assuring court orders and other client information are added to the clients electronic medical record.
  • Reviewing tasks assigned to other Residential advisiors to verify accuracy and completion at the direction of the program director.
  • Documents the activities of the program participants in the electronic medical record
  • Facilitates and documents non clinical groups under the direction of the program director
  • Utilizes approved crisis intervention techniques to assist with de-escalation of situations, ensuring resident, staff, and visitor safety
  • Implements the behavioral/level system where applicable
  • Assists in the accountability process
  • Assists with the initial assessment and receiving of new program participants
  • Working a flexible schedule, and consistently arriving to scheduled shifts on time
  • Transports participants to medical appointments, approved activities, and program locations
  • Assists in the implementation of recreational activities for program participants, participating where appropriate
  • Ensures the facility is kept clean and in working order
  • Ensures participant medication is processed upon arrival, monitors residents self-administration and documents medications taken.
  • Uploads documents to the program participants electronic medical record as assigned
  • Assists other WestCare staff as needed to promote cooperation and portray a professional image to the community
  • Embraces and embodies the mission, vision, guiding principles, clinical vision and goals of WestCare Kentucky
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications:
  • At least 1 year of experience working in residential or substance use related field
  • Must be at least 18 years old or older
  • Ability to work well, both individually and as part of a team
  • Ability to prioritize tasks
  • Complete assignments in a timely manner
  • Ability to exercise good judgement and discretion
  • Adherence to the highest standards of ethical conduct
  • Ability to maintain a professional appearance and demeanor

Education Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required, Associate’s Degree or related behavioral health certifications is preferred
Certification and Licensure Requirements:
  • Valid Kentucky Driver’s License
Working Conditions:
  • Work is primarily performed within a treatment facility, but outside work and out-of-state travel may occasionally be required
  • The normal work routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues, but exposure or potential exposure may occur during employment. All company personnel are required to deal with such elements in accordance with WestCare’s safety standards. Appropriate personal protective equipment will be readily available to every employee
  • Travel between program locations within the region is required
  • Flexible work hours and regular attendance is required

The employee must be able to perform the following essential duties and activities with or without accommodation:

Physical Demands:
  • Requires mobility and physical activity: Having an adequate range of body motion and mobility to work in an office, residential, or outdoor environment including standing and walking (even and uneven surfaces), sitting for extended periods of time, bending, twisting, reaching, balancing, occasional lifting and carrying of up to 30 pounds. Use of computer and telephone systems is required which includes coordination of eye and hand, and fine manipulation by the hands (typing, writing, and working with files). Requires the ability to defend oneself and clients in physically abusive situations through the use of approved physical de-escalation techniques.
  • Requires talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Talking is required to impart oral information to employees, clients, patients, and the public, and in those activities in which the employee is required to convey detailed or important spoken instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Requires hearing: Hearing is required to receive and communicate detailed information through oral communication.
  • Requires seeing: Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less and at distance. This factor is required to complete paperwork for many of the employee’s essential job functions and to observe client behavior and activities in and out of the facility.
Mental Demands:
  • Requires the ability to collect and analyze written data and verbal information to reach logical conclusions
  • Requires the ability to work and cooperate with clients, co-workers, managers, the public and employees at all levels in order to exchange ideas, information, instructions and opinions
  • Requires the ability to work under stress and in emotionally charged settings
  • The ability to defend oneself and clients in mentally/verbally abusive situations through the use of approved mental/verbal de-escalation techniques
