Job description

Join to apply for the Resident Project Representative / Construction Manager - (Detroit, MI) role at Brown and Caldwell.

Brown and Caldwell’s Detroit, MI office has a full-time opportunity for a Resident Project Representative/Construction Manager to join our growing team. This position is responsible for representing Brown and Caldwell and our clients on construction projects, requiring coordination with clients, regulatory agencies, construction managers, and contractors.

The successful candidate will need to understand and interpret design documents (technical specifications, construction drawings, etc.), produce daily field documentation such as reports, facilitate progress meetings, communicate with the design team, review pay applications, document field changes, work closely with multidisciplinary project teams, manage change, perform field oversight, and interface with the BC design team, field crews, and clients.

Responsibilities include:
  1. Providing construction management oversight and on-site inspections for water and wastewater projects.
  2. Collaborating with project managers, contractors, and clients to address design issues and project updates.
  3. Reviewing construction drawings, specifications, and evaluating project progress and quality.
  4. Documenting fieldwork through notes, photos, and measurements, and comparing implementation against plans.
  5. Preparing and reviewing design and bidding documents for completeness and constructability.
  6. Managing project correspondence, change orders, and schedules to ensure compliance and timely delivery.
  7. Leading field investigations, inspections, and documentation of construction activities.
  8. Mentoring and supervising staff, ensuring safety compliance, and managing project risks.
  9. Handling project closeout documentation and punch list inspections.
Desired Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, Environmental Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or significant relevant experience).
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience in construction oversight, design, and municipal infrastructure projects.
  • Strong communication skills, knowledge of construction practices, and ability to manage teams.
  • Knowledge of regulations, quality standards, and construction management processes.
  • PE license is preferable; OSHA HAZWOPER certification required or obtainable.
  • Ability to travel regionally and work in various site conditions, including confined spaces and uneven terrain.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record.

Salary Range: $88,000 - $120,000, with benefits including health insurance, retirement plan, paid time off, and more. The position requires pre-employment background and drug testing.
