Job description

Summary

We are currently seeking several PGY-2 Resident Pharmacists to join our Pharmacy Resident team. These are full-time positions with benefits, 80 hours per pay period, rotating day/night shifts with rotating weekends, 8-hour shifts.

Under the supervision of a preceptor, supervisor, or Director of Pharmacy Services, the Pharmacy Resident performs a variety of clinical, operational, and technical duties. Responsibilities include pharmacotherapy assessments, real-time interventions with medical staff, providing in-services, mentoring students, and understanding pharmacy operations within HCMC. The Resident acts as an information resource regarding medication therapy and drug-related information, maintains confidentiality, enters and retrieves data, prepares medications, and ensures quality and safety in medication practices. They also translate policies into daily operations and organize work schedules.

Responsibilities
  1. Provide patient-specific assessments of pharmacotherapy needs, making real-time interventions to optimize drug therapy.
  2. Participate in quality improvement activities.
  3. Maintain current knowledge of pharmacotherapy, pathophysiology, and procedures.
  4. Critically evaluate and interpret medical information for physicians.
  5. Access drug information from various sources.
  6. Verify orders and ensure accuracy.
  7. Complete and present a research project before the end of the residency.
  8. Mentor PharmD students and evaluate their performance.
  9. Represent the pharmacy department on committees.
  10. Complete projects as assigned.
  11. Participate in code response teams when ACLS certified.
  12. Work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  13. Potentially work as a pharmacist later in the residency year after fulfilling other requirements.
Qualifications
  • Graduate from an accredited college of pharmacy.
  • Successful completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY1 Residency Program.
  • Pharmacist license from the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy.
