Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; degree in Therapeutic Recreation or related field preferred.
• Experience in geriatric, long-term care, recreational, or related setting.
• 1–3 years of related experience preferred.
• Experience working with residents with cognitive impairment or Dementia.
• Strong organizational, communication (written and oral), and interpersonal skills.
• Creativity and enthusiasm for planning and leading meaningful activities for groups; public speaking ability.
• Ability to brainstorm with professionals and adapt activities to resident needs.
• Strong problem-solving abilities with flexibility to changing situations and independence.
• Comfort coordinating with outside vendors and adhering to budget guidelines.
• Professional documentation and communication skills.
• Organized, caring, energetic, patient, compassionate, dependable, team-oriented, positive attitude.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver recreational and therapeutic activities tailored to residents’ needs.
• Engage residents and support social, physical, and emotional well-being.
• Maintain documentation per state & federal regulations (attendance, assessments, care plans).
• Collaborate with staff, families, and vendors to create a supportive community atmosphere.
• Work indoors/outdoors with variable conditions and variable shifts as needed.
• Assist with transportation and set up for activities and events.
• Support special meals, flower arranging, and space maintenance.
• Act as a resident advocate and participate in trainings and committees.
