Job summary

Psomas seeks an experienced Resident Engineer to join its Seattle-based Construction Services Team, delivering public works infrastructure projects across the Puget Sound region. You’ll serve as the owner's representative, ensuring projects stay aligned with plans, are safely constructed, and progress through strong field oversight and clear communication.

Regular project-site presence is required, with collaboration across clients, inspectors, crews, and design teams.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience supporting construction management, resident engineering, inspection, or owner's representative services on transportation, public works, or heavy civil infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with WSDOT Standard Specifications, WSDOT Construction Manual, ADA requirements, Local Agency Guidelines (LAG), and federally funded transportation projects.
  • Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and ability to commute to the office, project sites, and job trailers as needed.
  • Ability to work on active construction sites, including walking on uneven terrain, working outdoors in varying weather, wearing required safety equipment, and following safety protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day field activities, contract administration, project documentation, and stakeholder coordination for public works infrastructure projects in the Seattle area.
  • Provide pre-construction services including bid-ability/constructability reviews, pre-construction meetings, and bidding services.
  • Review contractor schedules, respond to claims, RFIs, submittals, change orders, and related project records.
  • Monitor field activities and contractor performance for compliance with approved plans, specifications, budget, schedule, safety expectations, and quality standards.
  • Coordinate with clients, owners, contractors, design teams, inspectors, subconsultants, utilities, and agencies while leading project meetings.
  • Address field issues, potential change orders, schedule impacts, and project risks with a fair, practical, solutions-focused approach.

What You'll Do

As our Resident Engineer, you will manage day-to-day field activities, contract administration, project documentation, and stakeholder coordination for public works infrastructure projects in the Seattle area. Regular project-site presence is required, so candidates must live locally or be able to commute to sites across the region.

  • Support Successful Project Starts: Provide pre-construction services including bid-ability/constructability reviews, pre-construction meetings, and bidding services.
  • Construction Administration & Contract Documentation: Support contract administration by reviewing contractor schedules, respond to claims, RFIs, submittals, change orders, and related project records.
  • Construction Oversight & Owner Representation: Monitor field activities and contractor performance for compliance with approved plans, specifications, budget, schedule, safety expectations, and quality standards.
  • Keep People Connected: Coordinate with clients, owners, contractors, design teams, inspectors, subconsultants, utilities, and agencies while leading project meetings.
  • Solve Field Challenges: Address field issues, potential change orders, schedule impacts, and project risks with a fair, practical, solutions-focused approach.
  • Guide Field Teams: Coordinate inspectors, materials testing resources, subconsultants, and field staff to support accurate documentation and successful project delivery.
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience supporting construction management, resident engineering, inspection, or owner's representative services on transportation, public works, or heavy civil infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with WSDOT Standard Specifications, WSDOT Construction Manual, ADA requirements, Local Agency Guidelines (LAG), and federally funded transportation projects.
  • Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and ability to commute to the office, project sites, and job trailers as needed.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Washington Professional Engineer (PE) license and/or Certified Construction Manager (CCM) designation.
  • 10+ years of experience supporting transportation, roadway, bridge, or public works infrastructure projects.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Pay Range: $105,000-$125,000/annual (commensurate with experience). Exceptionally qualified candidates may be considered for a Senior Resident Engineer position with compensation up to $145,000/year.
