Job summary

TerraPower is hiring a Resident Engineer in Huntsville, AL to oversee Teledyne Brown Engineering’s design and delivery of nuclear fuel handling systems for the Natrium project. You will review designs, coordinate fabrication, and ensure compliance with industry standards.

This role emphasizes on-site collaboration and technical leadership in a high‑stakes nuclear environment. Qualified candidates will have a BS in Mechanical, Electrical, or Nuclear Engineering with at least ten years of design

Qualifications

  • Minimum ten years of design experience is required.
  • Excellent technical writing, documentation and communication skills.
  • High degree of trust, integrity, and teamwork.
  • Nuclear industry experience with ASME NQA-1 is preferred.
  • Experience with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section III or VIII is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Support design, fabrication, construction, and testing of systems and equipment.

Resident Engineer, Teledyne Brown

TerraPower, LLC. Is seeking a highly motivated Resident Engineer to provide oversight and coordination of equipment supplier Teledyne Brown Engineering on-site in Huntsville, Alabama. In this role, you will create and review design solutions for fuel handling equipment, structures, and systems for the Natrium Generation IV Reactor. Candidates must have extensive experience in system and equipment design and qualification. Experience in system and equipment operation, maintenance, and fabrication is also valued. This role will report to a Fuel Handling System Manager and will join the Natrium Fuel Handling Team. This role will work as part of a high functioning team of engineers and scientists focused on developing the design of next generation advanced nuclear reactors and associated fuel handling equipment.

Responsibilities:
  • Oversight of supplier design and delivery of nuclear fuel handling systems and equipment from requirements through final design and delivery of equipment to site.

  • Identify and ensure effective application of design codes such as ASME, ANS, ASTM, ASHRAE, IEEE, NFPA, BTH-1 and regulatory requirements.
  • Present designs or participate in design reviews.
  • Propose and define testing programs. Provide support and oversight during test execution, evaluation of test results, and reporting of test results.
Key Qualifications:
  • Education: B.S. degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Nuclear Engineering preferred. Other engineering disciplines may be considered if the candidate has relevant experience. M.S. and Doctorate degrees may be credited for up to two and four years of experience respectively.
  • A minimum of ten years of design experience is required
  • Excellent technical writing, documentation, and communication skills.
  • A successful candidate must possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork.
  • The ideal candidate will possess nuclear industry experience working under an ASME NQA-1 quality program.
  • Experience with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section III or Section VIII a plus.

This position is subject to qualification requirements in accordance with ANSI/ANS 3.1. Candidates must meet the minimum education and experience criteria applicable to the role, including relevant nuclear industry experience where required. Verification of data will be part of the hiring process.

Salary Range:$134,629 – $179,506

Any salary offered within the posted salary band is based on market data and commensurate with the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience. This range is specific to Alabama State.
