Job description

Reporting to the Director of Advanced Services, Enterprise, this is a highly technical role, providing post-sales on-site support of Junipers Network Products. The Advanced Services Network Operations (NOC) Resident Engineer will be required to develop and maintain expertise on the products deployed within the Customers network.

Location : Virginia remote with travel to customer site (Virginia Beach, VA / Tidewater Area VA)

Responsibilities :

  • Hold network information gathering workshops with the Customer to understand the Customer’s existing network design and technical requirements of new network designs.
  • Understand the Customer’s organizational structure and become familiar with the Customer’s network implementation and support processes and procedures to help in supporting a network that is available and sustainable.
  • Carry out testing of new Designs, features, and functionality as required by the Customer in a laboratory environment and to help develop plans to implement and verify that they are operating correctly in the live network.
  • Provide test patches and fixes to operating software and to ensure that they are implemented and functioning correctly in the pre-production test network and then live network as implementation plans dictate.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and network problems and to open and track JTAC cases through to problem resolution on pre and post production issues.
  • Raise equipment, Return Material Authorizations (RMA’s) and to track these through to problem resolution
  • Produce a written summary report of the status of Design projects, equipment and network problems on a regular basis to the Customer
  • Hold technology workshops with the Customer to discuss equipment and network problems, and to provide case status updates, including the reasons for any problems encountered and the workarounds and / or solutions that are being tried
  • Train the Customer’s design, implementation and support personnel to configure and operate the Juniper Networks products
  • To assist the Customer to develop Network Operating and Equipment Operating

Procedures

  • Support production environment of Juniper products within the Customer infrastructure
  • Support ongoing efforts in defining best practice policies for Juniper product applications used by Customer
  • The Resident Engineer is expected to peer with other employees performing similar resident engineering roles where lessons learned may help minimize risk associated with major network upgrades or changes in the network.

The RE will be expected to develop secondary skills in other products in the Juniper product portfolio.

Base Qualifications

  • Candidates for this role MUST have a minimum 5 years experience providing implementation and technical support of networking products in LAN, WAN, or Internet services environments.
  • Managing large technical account activity revolving around

network products as well as multiple vendors.

Experience working in an Enterprise, Data Center and Branch Campus network solution environment.

  • Candidates for this role MUST be able to demonstrate the following competencies : Strong Interpersonal skills, Ability to work well with many levels of customer engineering and management, ability to work well with the Juniper account team and JTAC.
  • Detailed technical experience with the installation and operation of IP Routers and Switches, including hands-on operations of management tools and network analyzers.
  • Detailed understanding of the protocols surrounding IP networks.

Skills should generally include : a. TCP / IP fundamentals, b. IP subnetting and super netting and hierarchical routing principles, c. Routing protocol operation (OSPF and BGP), d. Routing policies at BGP peering points, e. VPNs and the associated tunneling technologies (L2TP, MPLS, etc.) Switching, spanning tree and other switching technology as required, Firewalls and associated technologies as required

  • The ability to function in a team environment, recognize tasks with self-direction as well as the ability to take direction from the customer, account team, and AS leadership.
  • Hands-on configuration and operational expertise of Juniper routing and switching products with the passion to continue learning and expanding your knowledge.
  • Support Customer’s Health Care Network environment consisting of Juniper products to include MX, EX, QFX and Mist wireless solution.

Operational and support knowledge of Apstra, Paragon Planner & Anuta Network Automation

  • Support and maintain setup of Lab, create test plans and templates for service and feature deployments.
  • Focused qualifications and requirements include extensive experience with EVPN / MPLS
  • Configuring and deployment of L2 / L3VPN pseudo-wire services
  • Segment routing
  • Virtual Chassis configuration and setup
  • BGP, MPLS, L2 / L3 services
  • Ideal candidate certifications : JNCIA, JNCIS, JNCIP, JNCIE, CCNP, CCIE a strong plus.

Minimum Salary : $118,976.00

Maximum Salary : $171,028.00

The pay range for this position is expected to be between $118,976.00 and $171,028.00 / year; however, the base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position also includes medical benefits, 401(k) eligibility, vacation, sick time, and parental leave. Additional details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department / team performance, and market factors.

Juniper’s pay range data is provided in accordance with local state pay transparency regulations. Juniper may post different minimum wage ranges for permanent residency petitions pursuant to US Department of Labor requirements.
