Job summary

Greenman-Pedersen Inc. is seeking an experienced Resident Engineer to lead construction management and inspection of rail projects in New Jersey. You will review contract items, oversee field testing, and coordinate change orders and RFIs with project teams.

Ideal candidates have a BS in engineering, 10+ years of field leadership, OSHA 30-hour certification, and a valid driver's license. Proficiency with plans and MS Office is required.

Qualifications

• BS degree in engineering or a related field.
• OSHA 30-hour safety certification.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the construction management and inspection of rail projects
• Review shop drawings and specifications to ensure proper installation of contract items
• Preparing inspection reports and oversight of field testing and commissioning
• Review change orders and issue recommendations and respond to RFI's
• Maintain quantity logs and review payment requests from contractors
• Attend meetings and prepare minutes
• Review and maintain staffing reports, payroll certifications, and other labor documentation from the contractors
• Review the Contractor's work plans
• Ensure the Contractor complies with the Contractor's Safety and Health Plan
• Prepare a punch list with the owner upon completion of the project

Education

Qualifications

• BS degree in engineering or a related field
• 10+ years of experience as a Resident Engineer and managing construction field teams
• Experience with Amtrak, MTA, Metro-North Railroad, NJ Transit, or Long Island Railroad construction projects and project management guidelines (PMG's) is a plus
• OSHA 30-hour safety certification
• Candidate must have reliable transportation
• A licensed professional engineer is preferred

Requirements

• Maintain a valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for final consideration
• Possess a personal vehicle for use on or around a job site
• Read, write, and understand plans and directions given in the English language
• Basic computer skills with the ability to create and edit Microsoft Word and Excel documents, create Outlook emails and utilize SharePoint and Microsoft Teams to communicate with other team members
• Able to traverse a construction job site consisting of uneven ground varying in height and consistency of material, with a variation of elevation 19" or less (mud, gravel, rutted ground, etc.)
• Able to wear GPI required PPE, i.e., hard hats, safety vest, work boots, and/or safety glasses/goggles while working
• Able to move equipment or inspection specimens weighing up to 50 pounds
