About the Role

Mott MacDonald is seeking a Resident Engineer with construction experience in the New York City Metro Area within rail transportation and infrastructure. The successful candidate must understand the construction industry in the NYC Metro Area and have experience working on public agency projects.

Responsibilities
  • Leading construction inspection staff for infrastructure and transportation projects in the NYC Metro Area.
  • Handling typical duties of a resident engineer with inspection/office engineering staff, including project management on behalf of infrastructure owners.
  • Act as primary field liaison between the owner and contractor.
  • Plan, organize, and supervise engineering and construction inspection activities, monitor detailed cost breakdown and construction schedule; serve as senior representative for inspection of contractor activities, payments, processing, and negotiation of claims and change orders.
  • Supervise a staff of engineers, inspectors, project control, office engineers, project administrators, and specialty sub-consultants.
  • Lead progress meetings and interact daily with clients; coordinate responses to technical submittals, RFIs and other technical issues with design engineers.
  • Lead final project closeout documentation.
  • Interpret construction plans, specifications, and contracts.
Candidate Specification
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related field.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of relevant experience in the infrastructure and/or transit industry managing rail/transit projects, utilities, and structural rehabilitation projects with construction value of at least $50M.
  • Previous resident engineering experience with public rail infrastructure agencies.
  • Familiarity with NY area agency standards.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and safety standards.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as necessary.
  • Professional Engineering License or ability to obtain one in New York State.
  • OSHA 30 certification.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Pre‑employment and ongoing random drug testing required.
Benefits & Compensation

Compensation: $152,000 - $186,000 annually, plus performance bonus.

Benefits include 401(k), medical, dental and vision insurance, short‑term and long‑term disability, paid holidays, PTO, parental leave, and company‑paid life insurance.
