Job summary

Stellantis Financial Services is seeking a Resident Engineer to join the Sterling Stamping Plant quality team in Michigan. The role focuses on leading quality initiatives, coordinating cross-functional groups, and ensuring design intent is maintained while addressing manufacturing constraints.

The successful candidate will guide root-cause analysis, generate quality data, and support continuous improvement efforts in a fast-paced automotive environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Strong Excel, PowerPoint and MS Access skills.
  • Excellent presentation and public speaking abilities.
  • Proven problem solving and coaching capabilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, capable of cross-functional leadership.
  • Ability to convey details from executive level to plant staff.
  • Openness to working off shift hours as needed.
  • Experience with LEAN or World Class Manufacturing is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Engineer process variation reduction and mitigate engineering issues.
  • Authorize or halt product activities related to quality as needed.
  • Lead risk/hazard identification and assist with FMEA and control plans.

Job description

Sterling Stamping Plant's Quality team is currently seeking a Resident Engineer professional to join our quality team. This position offers the selected candidate anopportunity to be an integral part of company whose focus is to change the automotive landscape.

Job Responsibilities include:
  • Support corporate quality objectives/deliverables and communicate customer demands to all groups involved to ensure organizational success
  • Provide expert technical leadership in coordinating and directing cross functional teams in the application of quality initiatives
  • Provide clear direction to skilled and non-skilled trades in the operation of product testing and evaluation to generate necessary quality test data
  • Collaborate and lead internal and external resources to maintain strong customer relationships with dedication to the program schedule
  • Protect product design intent and function while assisting with identification and solutions of manufacturing constraints
  • Deliver statistical analysis of data on competition, customer direction, product performance, employee performance and perception of the customer to the manufacturing team members
  • Provide technical direction to employees regarding root cause analysis, issue resolution and establish corrective actions serving as the subject matter expert (SME) within the manufacturing facility
  • Interpret released engineering designs, specifications, materials and standards for hourly and salary personnel
  • Engineer process variation reduction
  • Employ advanced problem-solving expertise to correct unfavorable variances and communicate alternative measures to mitigate engineering, timing and/or financial issues
  • Empowered (hold authority) to cease and commence product related activities in relation to quality related issues
  • Lead teams to identify risks/hazards associated with product designs, processes, applications, applying lessons learned, and assist in the generation of FMEA's and associated control plans
  • Provides supervision necessary to perform, administer or direct rework/repair methods and processes in compliance with engineering standards
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a bachelor's degree with relevant experience
  • Well-versed in Excel, PowerPoint and MS Access
  • Effective presentation/public speaking skills
  • Experienced with problem solving tools
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and teach others
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to communicate details from executive level to plant staff level
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work off shift hours as necessary
  • Self-motivated and directed
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree
  • Experience with BIW commodity
  • Experience in the design, testing and assembly of BIW assemblies
  • Experience working in a union environment
  • Background in LEAN manufacturing principles or World Class Manufacturing (WCM) and problem-solving techniques
  • Applicable work experience
