Job summary

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a Resident Engineer to join our Construction Engineering & Inspection team in New Jersey. The role supports transportation, bridge, utility and municipal projects, with potential locations near Mays Landing or Mt. Laurel.

You’ll work in the field, guiding inspections and coordinating documentation to deliver projects from plan to completion. Ideal candidates will have a bachelor’s degree in engineering and 6+ years in construction engineering/inspection,

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering preferred; high school diploma/GED required.
  • 10-hour OSHA certification required.
  • Valid US driver's license.
  • Experience with NJDOT or municipal clients is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead inspectors or act as a solo inspector for construction inspection of bridge/highway projects; document with reports, photos, sketches.
  • Oversee and coordinate documentation of construction inspection including pay estimates, change orders, daily reports, quantity checks, meeting minutes, certifications.
  • Ensure work is completed in accordance with specifications.
  • Apply project plans, company policies and standards; make decisive decisions.
  • Maintain project documentation and communicate with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Coordinate site activities and resolve field issues.
  • Lead other inspectors; provide coaching and direction as needed.

Overview

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a Resident Engineer to join our Construction Engineering & Inspection team in New Jersey! Candidates may be located near Mays Landing or Mt. Laurel.

In this role, you’ll be part of a collaborative, field-focused group supporting transportation, bridge, utility, and municipal construction projects across the region. Our team partners closely with clients, contractors, and local agencies to solve challenges in real time, uphold quality and safety standards, and help bring important public infrastructure improvements from plan to completion.

Responsibilities
  • Ability to lead inspectors or act as a solo inspector for the construction inspection of bridge and/or highway projects including measuring and calculating quantities and documenting work with daily work reports, photos, and sketches.
  • Oversee and coordinate documentation of construction inspection including pay estimates, change orders, daily work reports, quantity checking, meeting minutes, material certifications, etc.
  • Ensure work is completed in accordance with specifications.
  • Apply project plans, along with company policies, guidelines, standards, specifications to the work and make decisive decisions.
  • Maintain project documentation and communicate with individuals at all levels of the project.
  • Coordinate activities on the project site and resolve problems related to the work.
  • Lead other construction inspectors; providing coaching, mentoring, and direction as needed.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma/GED required.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering field preferred.
  • 6+ years of construction engineering/inspection experience required.
  • 10-hour OSHA certification required.
  • Valid US driver's license required.
  • Leadership skills, decision making, and attention to detail.
  • Previous experience working with/for NJDOT and/or municipal clients as a Resident Engineer.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.

Compensation: $45.00 to $71.00 per hour (depending on qualifications)

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work outdoors on project sites for extended periods of time and in various weather conditions required.
